The Best Destinations for Demarcus Cousins

With only four teams remaining this season, all other teams are now preparing to build and improve a roster that can compete against the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets and the Boston Celtics for years to come. This coming offseason is a big one, featuring top notch free agents highlighted by LeBron James, Paul George and one big man that people tend to forget because of his season ending injury, none other than DeMarcus Cousins. Not all franchises are willing to offer a max deal to Cousins as they are scared of taking the risk with a player who suffered a career ending injury. Cousins may not be the dominant player he was after the injury but he is still one of the major free agents for the season. But with the MVP numbers he had this past season; I definitely think that he’s worth the risk.

This coming offseason has been most awaited for its super-rich free agent class and the big-market teams have enough cap space to offer huge amount of money. There are teams that can offer two max contracts; example is the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers intends to make a push for top free agents like James and George, and also DeMarcus Cousins. The Lakers will be a great fit for cousins as they have a young core that have a lot of potential like Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram. There is also Lonzo Ball; a pass first point guard that can feed Cousins very well and can also shoot from long range. Adding Cousins to these young Lakers team plus some role players, the Lakers will surely make the playoffs once again and it will be Cousins most awaited playoff debut.

LeBron James is set to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Cavs association should make some moves to convince James to stay. The Cavaliers have been interested in DeMarcus Cousins for a very long time and this coming off season may be the time for them to land him. Signing Cousins will surely convince LeBron to stay at The Land and it will also be a good move for Cousins as he can showcase his talents to the playoffs and probably to the finals. Pairing him with Kevin Love will be a major frontcourt duo that will fill the voids for the Cavs. Cousins is a dominant rebounder the Cavs needed so much, and a dominant post scorer that can also shoot from long range. He can also share the load James is carrying throughout this season and James would love the fact that he wouldn’t have to carry the team single-handedly. For this to happen, the Cavs must clean cap space which will be a huge challenge for them. They will need to trade away JR Smith, George Hill or Tristan Thompson who has huge amount of contracts.

Cousins and Davis duo has been a proven dynamic frontcourt duo and the New Orleans Pelicans seems to be the best destination for Cousins this summer. But the Pelicans are not likely to offer him a max deal in order to land some role players to improve they’re already impressive roster. The Pelicans must surround Cousins and Davis more shooters and they also must retain Rajon Rondo in order for them to be a contender in the Western Conference. Cousins played outstanding basketball producing MVP caliber numbers all year. The Pelicans also had Nikola Mirotic which is a great addition and can be their sixth man if they were able to sign Cousins this summer.
