There are some fantastic young players in the 2018 NBA Playoffs so we want to highlight a few of the rising stars of the NBA. Next, let’s take a look at Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz.
Donovan Mitchell is from Elmsford, New York and was raised by his mom and dad in Greenwich, Connecticut. His dad has a great job in professional sports and is the Director of Player Relations in the MLB for the New York Mets. Mitchell had an incredible high school sports career and had several offers from Division 1 schools to play basketball but eventually decided to take his talents to the University of Louisville.
The freshman year for Donovan Mitchell at Louisville would be a good one but he would not burst onto the scene as he had hoped. Mitchell would play in all 31 games but would only start in 5. He would average 19 minutes per game and score 7.4 points per game. He struggled with his 3 point shot, only making .25% from downtown but showed a lot of promise.
Mitchell’s sophomore year would be dynamite. He averaged 15.6 points per game and shot the ball much better from outside and turned a lot of heads with his explosive drives to the rim. It was clear that he was ready to take the leap to the NBA and leave school early.
The Denver Nuggets would draft Mitchell with the 13th overall pick but would trade him later on draft night to the Utah Jazz. Although the Jazz had high expectations for Mitchell during his rookie year, they were blown away by his production. Mitchell would lead the team in scoring at 20.5 points per game. He would also dazzle the public by winning the NBA Dunk Contest during the All Star Weekend. He is likely to win the Rookie of the Year Award at the end of the season.
But Donovan Mitchell’s season is far from over. The Utah Jazz are tied at 1-1 in their first round series against the Oklahoma City Thunder. They will play in game 3 in Salt Lake City on Saturday.

Good post. So informative
I’m a huge Utah fan. One of the best parts about this kid is he is humble. And he always sings Kendrick Lamar songs.
