The first full week of the 2018 MLB season gets going today with a ton of action. The Chicago Cubs get their second series of the year going against the Cincinnati Reds. The first pitch is at 3:10pm Central Standard Time. It can be seen in Chicago on Comcast Sports Channel and in Cincinnati on Fox Sports Ohio. It will take place at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The Cubs are favored at -143 and the over/under is 8.5 runs.
The Cubs are coming off of a 2-2 split with the Miami Marlins. It was a slightly disappointing start to their season as they are a much more talented team than Miami. But the bats were cold and the starting pitching was inconsistent.
Today, the Cubs will send Tyler Chatwood to the mound. Chatwood came over to the Cubs from the Colorado Rockies. He could be one of the best #5 starters in the league and not having to pitch in Colorado half of the year will be a welcome thing for the right handed pitcher.
The Cincinnati Reds have gotten off to an awful start this year and are 0-3. They were swept by the Washington Nationals and the fanbase is already extremely frustrated. If they get swept by the Cubs in this two game series, the boo birds will be loud and it could signal for a long and depressing summer for the Reds.
They are sending Tyler Mahle to the bump to try and stop the bleeding. This will only be the 5th game that Mahle has pitched in a Reds uniform but they are hoping the youngster can be one of the bright spots in their starting rotation this year.
