MLB Preview: Cincinnati Reds host the Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds wrap up their quick two game series today. The first pitch will be at 5:30pm Central Standard Time and the game can be seen on National Television on WGN and locally in Ohio on Fox Sports Ohio. It will be played at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. The Cubs are big favorites at -167 and the over/under is 9 runs. There is some bad weather in the area so the game may face a delay or two if the thunderstorms don’t clear up.

The Cubs are coming off of a terrible 1-0 loss on Monday. Their new starting pitcher, Tyler Chatwood, pitched fantastic and only gave up one run in six innings. But their bats were cold as the Cubs only had 2 hits on the day.

Today, the Cubs will send Jon Lester to the mound to try and right the ship. Lester was the opening day starter and gave up 4 runs to the Marlins but did not figure in the decision. He should be licking his chops against this Reds line up that historically does not hit the baseball well of him.

Anthony Rizzo and Javier Baez are struggling big time at the plate so far this season. Rizzo is batting .130 and Baez is batting .111. It is imperative to get them going so the Cubs anemic offense can get back to life. Kris Bryant likes to hit in Cincinnati so hopefully he can help pick up the slack.

The Cincinnati Reds are excited after their first win of the year. They will send Cody Reed to the mound for the first time this year. It is just Reed’s third year in the majors and he has a career ERA of 6.75. That could spell trouble as he faces a hungry Cubs line up.

Reds slugger Joey Votto has gotten off to a very quiet start so far this year. He is just batting .200 and is yet to have a home run or RBI. Second baseman Scooter Gennett has been the bright spot on the team and is batting .471.

Tonight’s game should be a fun one. The over/under being at 9 runs means there should be plenty of fireworks!
