Julius Randle helps the Pelicans shock the Rockets

It was a dynamite night in the NBA on Wednesday evening. The regular season got officially started with a double-header on Tuesday that featured the World Champion Golden State Warriors, but last night we got a full slate of 11 games. There were some really good match-ups and some outstanding performances, but there was one player that has instantly made his team a contender.
Julius Randle of the New Orleans Pelicans was the player of the night in my opinion.
Randle was not supposed to even be on the New Orleans Pelicans though. He was a high draft pick by the Los Angeles Lakers a few years ago and was showing a lot of potential. He was going to be one of the young pieces of the Lakers future. But that all changed when Lebron James decided to leave the Cleveland Cavs, again, and the Lakers needed to make room to fit the big contract of Lebron.
The Pelicans came calling and they were the lucky team that landed Julius Randle this past summer. It seemed like a good deal for the Lakers, but after seeing Randle play at such a high level last night, it may have been a mistake. The Lakers could have shipped another player or two and kept Randle.
Last night Julius Randle helped the Pelicans beat the Houston Rockets, in Houston, by a score of 131-112. He would score 25 points in just 23 minutes. He had his inside game going, his outside game going, and his mid-range game going. Randle would shoot 9-15 from the field, 2-4 from the 3 point line, and 5-6 from the free throw line. He would also add 8 rebounds and 3 assists.
The craziest part of the night was that he did all of that off of the bench. The Pelicans are so loaded that they can have Randle as their explosive 6th man. He will destroy the other “second units” if last night was any sign towards the future. Julius Randle has now helped the New Orleans Pelicans become one of the best teams in the West. Watch out Golden State!
