The Houston Rockets and Clint Capela reached an agreement on a 5-year, $90 million extension according to ESPN. The Rockets will now keep the restricted free agent for the next five years. Capela was selected by the Houston Rockets as the 25th overall draft pick back in 2014. Capela sat on the bench for most of his early years with the Rockets because of Dwight Howards presence. Howard was their starting center by that time but Capela’s rapid development led to replace Dwight in the starting role. Capela becomes the ideal pick-and-roll partner for James Harden and they develop a great chemistry together. Capela is just 23 years old and can even improve for the next years of his career.

With the arrival of Chris Paul, Capela became more effective. We all know what Chris is capable of doing especially with the type of center Capela is. He did it with DeAndre Jordan who becomes better because of the magic that Chris Paul brings. Chris is arguably one of the best passers in the history of the NBA and Harden also is a great passer. Capela is not just great in catching lob passes and pick-and-roll plays, he is also an effective rim protector who has high defensive IQ which led him to anchor the defense.
Capela averaged only two points per game during his rookie season but last season, he averaged 13.9 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game. He also played a career high 27.5 minutes per game. He’s confidence is building very well in his fourth season as he only posted 25 double-double in his first three season but recorded 42 last season. Capela only took 2 shots a game in his rookie season but last season its nine. The Rockets did a great job securing Capela and Paul. They had a great team now even though they failed to retain some key players. They will also sign 10x all-star Carmelo Anthony and James Harden and Chris Paul will surely get the best out of Melo this upcoming season.
I believe that this Rockets team has a chance to beat the Golden State Warriors. They almost did it last season if Chris Paul didn’t get injured. If Melo play well, the Rockets will have more offensive powers and opponents will have many mismatch against the Rockets. Their offense will be fine but defense is the problem. Melo will have trouble in the Rockets switching defense but it will still be fine as long as Melo get his game back in offense. This will be an exciting season for the Rockets as they will try again to dethrone the Warriors.

Capela's value has def increased over the past couple of seasons in a big way and I totally agree that with Chris Paul's arrival he was even more valuable this past season. Good moves to get him and Paul locked up, and the addition of Melo should be interesting as well. I agree they should be able to seriously push the Warriors once again, and on paper with everyone healthy should be able to beat them. The problem is, and I really hate to say it, but CP3 always gets hurt in the postseason at some point. By the end of the season, they would be wise to have some kind of depth in-place, just in case he couldn't go again for any period of time in the playoffs, because it would be a shame if this team couldn't push for the Finals next year.

Yeah. It's sad that Chris Paul has been always injured at times that a team needed him so much. It's sad to think that he have to just accept the fact that we hasn't able to see what Chris can do in the critical games just like in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals last season. Maybe they have won that series if Chris was healthy and maybe they became NBA champs as well.
