Chelsea are the current Champions of England, normally that would be a statement of their pedigree and apparent quality. Still, however, somehow the feeling amongst football enthusiasts coming into this game week was that Chelsea were overwhelming underdogs when they took on Tottenham Hotspurs this last game week, and befittingly so.
Chelsea went into the match with a make shift squad so thinly spread. Injuries to Eden Hazard and Pedro and Suspensions for the likes of Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas meant that Chelsea micro squad had to be stretched so extensively. For Chelsea, Thibaut Courtois started in goal the three man defence consisted of the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen who made his first start as a Chelsea senior-player. The makeshift midfield consisted of a visibly unfit Tiemoue Bakayoko, Ngolo Kante and surprisingly David Luiz who played a sweeper role right in the middle of the park. The attack was spearheaded by Alvaro Morata who was supported by wide man Willian, with Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses playing the left and right back roles respectfully. Playing out in a 3-5-1-1 formation
For the home team Hugo Lloris started in goal. His three man defence consisted of Eric Dier, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderwierald. In midfield Victor Wanyama and Moussa Dembele were at the center of the pack. Kane spearheaded the attack supported by Eriksen and Dele Alli.
Chelsea almost drew first blood as early as the fourth minute when Alvaro Morata glanced a free header wide of the goal in a chance he should really have easily converted. The match settled into a comfortable yet intriguing lull as both teams tried to assert themselves early on without really threatening each other’s goal mouths.
However Chelsea drew first blood in the 24th minute when David Luiz forced a foul on him by Dele Alli just 25 yards from goal. Willian and Alonso stood over it, however it was the latter who played it. Firing an absolute gem out of the reach of a fully stretched Hugo Lloris.

After that Spurs influence grew visibly in the match as they threatened a lot before the break as Chelsea sat deep, looking to punish Spurs on the break. The same trend followed in the second half as Tottenham played set piece after set piece and Chelsea looked astute at the back.
Things changed when Michy Batshuayi who had been brought on for Alvaro Morata badly misjudged a Christian Eriksen free kick and put the ball in his one net late on in the match. Marcos Alonso however had other plans as he stole behind Spurs defense to latch on to a Pedro through ball and finish beautifully under the arms of the on rushing Hugo Lloris.

Pundits would say Chelsea are still in a crises, as the squad remains too thin to compete effectively in four competitions, but Chelsea showed why they are arguably England’s finest. While spurs will find themselves scratching their heads and wonder how this went wrong.

Chelsea gang is super strong this year. Full of young blood with a lot of experience. They'll win cup this year. #Thumbsup :)
