The verdict is out with regards to the Women’s Footballer of the Year category for the BBC 2019 Football awards. Norwegian striker who plays for Lyon, Ada Hegerberg becomes the 2019 BBC Footballer of the year following her magnificent season that earned her and her club Lyon, the Treble.
The award also comes just days after she showcased her scintillating form by bagging a stunning hat-trick in the final of the 2019 UCL against Barcelona.
The 23-year old star forward had previously won the award in 2017, and following her recent win, has now won the award for the second time around.

The others in the final three-woman shortlist for the award included second-placed Pernille Harder of Denmark and Wolfsburg; and in third-place, Sam Kerr of Australia and Chicago Red Stars. According to the very ecstatic Ada Hegerberg, winning the award for the second time was such an amazing feeling.
Of the initial five-woman shortlist for the award, Ada Hegeberg’s teammate Saki Kumagai of Japan, as well as Lindsey Horan of the USA and Portland Thorns, completed the top five women short list.

At only just 23-years of age, Ada Hegerberg has achieved quite an impressive statistics in her football career. The Norwegian star has maintained a consistent goal scoring form in Lyon over the last few seasons. She racked up 53 goals in all competitions in the last 2017/2018 season.
This season has seen Ada Hegerberg continue in similar fashion; by also winning an audacious treble with her Lyon side – the French League title, French Cup, and the Champions league. In the final of the UCL in which she featured against Barcelona on Saturday, she bagged a brilliant hat-trick in just 16 minutes – which depicted how amazing the club and player have been this season.

The gorgeous 23-year old striker is also the woman with the prestigious honour of being the first Ballon d’Or Feminine winner. A feat she achieved in 2018.
Ada Hegerberg who has won 5 French League titles, 5 French Cups, and 4 UEFA Champions League title is such a goal machine that at every club level, she has scored an average of more than a goal per match.

At the international front, Ada Hegerberg hasn’t had a smooth sail though. She distanced herself from the Norwegian women’s national football side in 2017. Her reasons stemmed from a lack of commitment towards equality for girls; as well as over her agitation against her nation’s poor international and domestic football system.
Sadly though, her decision and self-exclusion from her national side means the world’s best female footballer will not partake in this summer’s Women World Cup to be hosted by France.
