Tool and platforms for Bitcoin and Altcoins data - are you using the right tools?

in #bitcoin8 years ago (edited)

I would like to share some of my go to tools in the crypto space; Navigating crypto is hard enough as it is but even harder if you do not arm yourself with some tools to assist with access to quick and accurate data.
I would like to break these down to a few categories: Wallets, Apps, and Websites and will discuss some of my favourite players in each.

Wallets:

Wallets for bitcoins and other crypto currencies, i have a number of wallet installed locally but i have a few main wallet that i trust for my bitcoin and crypto currency storage.

Jaxx - Everyday wallet:

Jaxx has a cross platform wallet application that allows you to use the same wallet on a number of devices and easily use the same shared keys to ensure that the wallet on your phone is the same as the wallet on your computer. A huge benefit i see in the Jaxx wallets is it provides multi currency functionality; currently only supporting Bitcoin, Ethereum and The DAO they have their sight's set on DASH and a long term goal of integrating all majors currencies into one wallets, which can be backed up using 1 seed!! That's right 1 twelve word mnemonic seed can be used to backup your Bitcoin, Ethereum, DAO and soon to be DASH funds!
Aesthetically Jaxx has a super slick looking wallet and the orange trimming looks really great against the Dark blue background.

Trezor - Bitcoin Safe - Savings wallet:

Trezor hardware wallets are not nearly as easy to use on the run as the Jaxx wallet mentioned above; mainly due to the fact that your require the hardware device to be connected to be able to sign transaction; you can receive transaction as normal; but sending transaction on the go using Mycelium will required the Trezor and OTG cable.

On the security and peace of mind side of things nothing beats a Trezor! i admit they are a bit expensive for your average user but if you want to feel warm and fuzzy about your bitcoin being secured then Trezor is my number 1 choice; although like any wallet solution you need to have a good strategy to backup your seeds safely and securely.

Apps

I am running an Android phone and as such have a large selection of apps that i can chose from when tracking prices, trading, following news or setting alarms. most of my apps focus on trading, tracking balances and market caps.

zTrader

zTrader is one of my favourite apps for checking charts on the run and seeing market statistics like order books and market caps. It allows a full screen cart view with smooth zooming capabilities and also allows you to input your API keys from the exchange and make trades while on the move.

Coincap

Coincap app is a great tool to track the whole market from a higher view point; it allows sorting by price, marketcap, volume traded, price change and other metrics. The App also updates live as prices change so you can watch the markets moving up and down in a sea of red and green flashes on your screen.

Bitcoin Checker

This app and integrated widget allow me to quickly see price on the main screen of my phone with out going into any apps at all; the price display also has an associated arrow which give a quick indication if the price has moved up or down since the last time it refreshed; it allows background updating at your preferred frequency and also allows you to set an array of alarms to alert you as market conditions change; such as Price change +/- x%, price > x, price < x.

Blockfolio

Blockfolio allows you to track the value of your crypto currency investments by allowing you to enter the amount of each coin owned and tracking its progress against bitcoin or FIAT currencies; there is a nice chart that will help you ensure that your portfolio is heading the right directions despite the fluctuation in all currencies.

Websites

Brave New Coin

Brave New Coin is a data analytics / aggregation service that tracks the markets on over 100 exchanges and present the data in a nice high level view that can be drilled into to find intricate details in relation to leading exchanges and volume pairs comparison between FIAT and BTC/LTC/XMR etc.
They also expose a list of coins by market cap with price using an aggregation of volume weighted average price data; this provides a smoother more accurate reflection of the price of any asset as they have derived the price from a volume weighted averaging formula that takes into account action on a large number of exchanges. They are also a great quality news and information provider.

Coinigy

Coinigy is an awesome trading platform tracking 50+ exchange and allows for trading to occur from within the Coinigy interface itself.
It uses a tradingview.com back-end with market data for all the leading crypto currency exchanges. they also track auxiliary data such as coin difficulty and hash rates etc that can be overlay-ed on your charts to find correlations between the fundamental data and the price action. They also provide a rich range of indicators, overlays and drawing tools. I highly recommend Coinigy for a technical analysis platform; it is a paid service but you can test it out for free for 30 days HERE

You have a better app/platform/wallet/tool? Great! please leave a comment

So they are my favourite tools; happy to recommend any of them and really keen to learn about your favourite crypto currency app/s.

Please share your favourite app or platform in the comments; you don't need to review them just mention the name and the category or goal and anyone interested can do further research; hopefully we end up with a list with at least few nice tools/websites/apps etc to add to our collection.

We are building https://cyber.fund :-)

Thanks for this, a few there I've never seen before. I'd also recommend cryptocompare.com, which I use for my portfolio, they also have a pretty informative crypto email sent out daily.

Please also add the Android based Smartcoins Wallet from BitShares Munich.

It allows users to hold any asset from the BitShares Platform in their wallet, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, DAO, Lisk, Dash, Doge, Litecoin and much more. Users can fund their account via Shapeshift, Blocktrades and OpenLedger.
