Pelican Feed 喂塘鹅
Up at The Entrance, a small town just over an hour North of Sydney, there is a pelican feeding show everyday at 3:30pm, where they would hand out fish to the wild pelicans that reside in the area. Just before the feeding starts, a large number of pelicans would start to turn up, walk onto the shore, to wait for their free feed.

It is sad that the natural lifestyle of the birds is interfered with to such an extent for the amusement of people. Fish feeding on the reefs gets to me also. Observing the birds in a fake feeding situation might allow for getting close, but it does not show them animals in their normal behaviour. I realise that pelis, and gulls. congregate when the trawlers come in, hoping to cadge a free feed, but to encourage it is poor form in my opinion.
Nice photo of one of the best birds. These are the fellas that should have been in Nemo, not the Louisiana Shaggy Browns which do not occur here.
I suppose so. But I think that regularly feeding these pelicans fish is probably better than random tourists feeding things that they shouldn't eat, such as bread. I have been to a farm where the sheep and and cows favourite food is bread from the visitor. That I find uncomfortable. At least the pelicans are eating what they normally have. Fish feeding on Reefs is different though, with reefs being such a large ecosystem, human involvement like that would have unforeseen consequences. Definitely not cool.
Yeah, I get cranky at people feeding bread to the swans and ducks on the local lake. The government put signs in one place which used to be popular asking people not to, so they simply moved around the bay, out of sight of the signs and continued to do it. Gits. I say something every time I see it. Had one lady tell me that maybe I shouldn't fish where I do if it was such a problem to me! I told her it was a problem for the birds, not me.
