Coffee with a friend

Would set you back $5.00 back in 2001. I do not remember a place anywhere in the city that would charge more than $2.50 per cup of coffee. This post is not about the price of coffee, but I always relate life in South America as it relates to survival here.

I was out with @jhelbich shopping for books, electronics, guitars and drums up and down Corrientes and we stopped at Gatto for a cup of Joe and to review purchases.

He was able to find books that his wife has to have, and he got them at over 60% discount. We did not buy any musical instruments, but we did upgrade cell service. One of us got a mint silver coin and that is enough to make anyone smile.

My friend will not be in town for very long, so I wanted to sit and chat with him on the days he does not have meetings.

I do not miss heading downtown with all the road closures and protests having to do with the collapsing economy and inflation.

A Cup of Joe was $2.50, Now $250.00

With that in mind, how is the average cashier going to pay for food? Rent? The streets here are starting to look like L.A. or San Francisco with people sleeping in the streets all over the place.

The coffee was good as usual, but it is hard to pay $800.00 for burgers, then later $500 for coffee until you put it in u$d terms. If you think in terms of dollars, the afternoon only cost about twleve-fifty.

Greetings @sponge-bob,

Appreciate the economic update.....thank you.

Congratulations on your finds.

All the best.

Cheers!

And the dollar has become inflated since 2001 too. What is there to even track the value of currency these days?

I'd say gold or something but those prices are manipulated as well. Is the point to keep us confused about the true value of things?

@sponge-bob, yo estoy mucho más sorprendido de la inflación de los precios, pero a parte de ello, ha sido bueno compartir ese momento con un amigo.

This trattoria has several stores in Buenos Aires, I remember one in Puerto Madero and the other in Av. Corrientes. It offers good pasta.
