Love and Light, Y'all

This is the @tribesteemup biweekly question.

Damn, this is a good question. What does it mean? We throw around words and phrases like light worker, sending light, love and light, but what are we really talking about, and why do we call it light? And what does it do when we send it?

Light, of course, has loads of spiritual references. Most people who've had near death experiences have seen some kind of light. Pictures of God are usually surrounded in light. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Jesus is the light of the world, etc. I was raised in Christianity, so it's what I'm most familiar with. I know there are other cultures and traditions that associate gods with caves and underworlds, but I think the God/light theme goes through many faiths.

Essentially, that is what I think a light worker is. It is someone working with God energy. It is a channel, a hollow bone for God energy to flow through. A person able to get out of the way enough to let God do their thing. A person able to see the divine, whole, healthy perfection of all beings.

I really got into light work when I got into reiki. I think any guesses on what God is or isn't are sort of pointless from this plane of existence. I just don't think we can ever wrap our heads around whatever it is. When you do reiki, though, you channel that energy. It is the Holy Spirit, the healing energy, the chi, the force it is. You have to completely let go of “me” and totally stop trying to do anything. It only flows in the state of allowing, total and complete absence of resistance or effort. Whatever it is and whatever you call it, it is warm, and it is bright. Ultimately I think that's why people call it light work. It's the closest word we have.

Being a light worker is also being in a state of allowing.

The reiki master who attuned me to reiki I and II was a wonderful woman. She was very powerful, and her light was very bright, in fact I could see it when she attuned me, though my eyes were closed. She said something very interesting to me, though. She told me that I needed to reign in my heart chakra or it would split open.

I trusted her wisdom, and I dialed back my giant heart. I think that was a terrible mistake. I think her advice must have come from her own wound, but I believe this affected me powerfully. I lost who I was at a time when I was expanding rapidly. The pain of forcing myself to cut off such an integral part of who I was was intense. I got this idea that my big, blooming heart was wrong and too much. I learned that no one is perfect, and that I needed to trust myself over anyone else.

Being a light worker means trusting your own guidance and letting your light shine.

I have witnessed the power of the light heal wounds, both physical and emotional. I have seen it cure the incurable. Hell, I even reikied stuck eggs out of a chicken once. That poor chicken was on death’s door. It smelled terrible. I thought I'd reiki it to help it move on to the other side. Next morning the poor girl had a pile of five or six rotten eggs and continued to live several more years. The light is powerful, and it is everywhere all the time. We only have to allow it to flow.

The light is always on, and it's available to everyone. Even the chickens.

I know. It's a duck, but it's cute.

I've seen people do all the things while giving and receiving reiki. People fall asleep, chatter away, laugh, cry, sweat, get scared. The light is always healing, and it's not our job to question how it looks or determine a “right way” toward healing.

Light work looks different every time, and all our emotions are important at different stages of healing.

Few things swoon my heart more than seeing my kids reiki themselves, each other, or me. I strongly believe that if it's not accessible to everyone, it's not revolutionary. Light work must be available to all people. Teaching my children to heal themselves and others was an incredible gift to them and to me. My daughter healed her IBS through a combination of expression and reiki.

A light worker teaches others, and knows anyone can do it. Candle to candle, we bring light to the world.

Those bits about healing emotional and spiritual wounds are important, especially right now. There is a lot of darkness at this time, and most of it comes from these spiritual and emotional wounds. We can send light to all of those. This light can literally change the direction of the world. It's always there. We just have to choose to send it. Think of it as your magic wand. Darkness? Boom. Send light. Suffering? Boom. Send light. Pain? Boom. Hatred? Boom. Anger? Boom. Just send it out all the time.

The world needs light and light workers very much right now. Just do it.

I loved this, it is so true we all have the potential to heal and be light workers like you so rightly put it here

I strongly believe that if it's not accessible to everyone, it's not revolutionary.

the potential to heal ourselves, we all have that inside of us xx
I hope you are well lovely, been thinking of you, hope things have settled a bit around you and you are feeling safe, much love xxxx

This piece keeps coming up! I know great shifts are coming. We just have to line up our juju!
Things are settling here. We had a really helpful town meeting that was healing, and Belizean Independence Day was Friday, and the celebration was really lovely. I'm feeling a bit safer, occasionally even sleeping with all lights off. Super grateful for my sweet dog that alerts me to visitors, though sometimes it's just a critter. She gets excited about all the things. Some of the chatter on fb from the us folks around sexual assault has been a bit unnerving, and I'm definitely grateful to not be there. Love you too! Thanks for checking in.
