Off Grid Homemade Maple Syrup From Canada - The Healthy Alternative to Sugur

in #off-grid6 years ago (edited)

My family took the time to make some organic sweet deliciousness in before the ice thawed making the trip impossible.

Maple syrup has a season and that season is cold. I remember growing up in the countryside not too far from where they made this batch and our school had a field trip to a maple syrup farm where we got to see how it's harvested and produced. It can be a time consuming process and you need to tap the trees and collect the sap in advance which could take a few days to fill a bucket. Tapping many trees at once will certainly speed increase you yield but this was just a family project to make the wilderness adventure more fun.

It’s the simple process of boiling off the water and all that’s left is the sweet natural sugar in a the wonderful easy to eat form of syrup. It can be time consuming but with a propane heater and sharing the chore of stirring the pot I’m sure pancakes are taken to the next level.

It's no wonder Canada's flag is a Maple leaf we've got so many Maple trees. Canada produces most of the worlds maple syrup. It's mostly made in Quebec, French Canada, and many farmers complain the industry is too heavily controlled by The Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers and they don't have the freedom to do what they want with it or sell it at a price they like.

It’s so valuable thieves have even plotted and made off with millions of dollars worth of the stuff. At CAD$1,300 per barrel it makes you wonder how oil can be so cheap considering what goes in to producing oil versus maple syrup.

Well, I hope a couple jars worth of the stuff doesn’t destroy the economy. After all the natives of Canada have been making Maple syrup for hundreds, maybe even thousands, of years before Europeans arrived and centuries later invented corn syrup, a sweet substitute that’s much cheaper. Maybe syrup packs more sweetness and less calories than sugar and is becoming a healthy alternative in many recipes.

Everything is possible off grid.

your post is very helpfull for health.thanks for sharing.

I'm glad you enjoyed. Stay happy and healthy.

The best food ever! Great article and the heist article is funny!

It's pretty good in coffee too, just drizzle and the sun comes up.

Gosh, this post makes me think about pancakes hehe. I love maple syrup too in place of honey, they have similar health benefits. That looks really fun making your own maple syrup at home. I was reminded of those moments making guava jelly and other sweet treats at home with my family too.

Now that explains how precious maple trees are in Canada.

Lovely family photos! You look so much like your dad. 😊

Do share your guava jelly experience.

When I'm with my dad people say I look like him. When I'm with my mom people say I look like her. lol I don't have many photos of my mom since that was back before everyone had a cell with a phone in the hand or or pocket all the time.

That's a good topic writing about my guava jelly experience. Thanks!

You do look like both your mom and dad but you and your sister got your eyes from your dad. You got his eye brows too =)

Homemade Maple Syrup from Canada I have to buy

The darker and the thicker it is the more pure. True Canadian Maple syrup will show on the bottle which "grade" it is.

I hear there are many companies that leave Quebec and go to Maine because of the regulations. Quebec keeps the supply low so they can keep the price high. I just picked up a 4 litre bottle last week. It should last is a little while.

Yea I've heard that too. It must be a huge commitment to move since trees take decades to grow to maturity and finding the right land with enough trees already mature enough must be pretty slim pickings. May your supply never dwindle.

Yeah Maple syrup has a lot of health benefits as you have discussed boost immune system, maintain our heart which very important, protect against virus. Thanks a lot sir @solarguy for the valuable post.

Next time you're in snow give this a try.

and checking out your posts now. ^^
