This is a historical graph of both Total STEEM and Liquid STEEM supply
(Note) There are two different scales on these graphs. For full scale, see graph below.
Liquid STEEM is the remaining STEEM that has not been converted into Steem Power. (Orange Line)
- When STEEM is liquid, it can be readily sold and purchased.
- When STEEM is locked away in SP, it is not liquid, It takes a significant amount of time to convert it back to a liquid form.
This is a graph of the same data. The data of this graph was plotted on the same scale to show the massive difference between Liquid STEEM and STEEM stored in SP
I created these charts with data that I collected over the 2 years!
Why are these graphs important?
STEEM is created at a high rate. Currently 8.19% per year. Many Steemians have a concern about STEEM inflation with the high rate of new currency creation. These graphs show that there is a limited supply of STEEM. Inflation is being offset by the rate of STEEM converted to Non-Liquid STEEM.

How to improve STEEM payment system:
Have you calculated the BURNED steem?
No, I haven't because it is insignificant. However since you asked, I calculated the combination of STEEM and SBD burned over the last 5 days and compared it to the average STEEM created over the last 5 days. Since SBD is not being created currently, I don't need to factor in how much SBD is being created. The amount of STEEM and SBD burned comes out to 0.502192%
About half a percent
I wish I owned 0.502192% of all steem created over the last 5 days.
I also wish I owned 0.502192% of all gold mined over the last 5 days.
I think burning steem is misguided and it would be much better to power-it-up.
However I was shocked to see burnposts at the top of the 30 day leaderboard.

I could not agree more.
To my way of thinking the point of creating Steem was to distribute (get it in as many hands as possible) it as far and a wide as possible.
The more it is distributed the more people will be attracted to use the platform.
It looks like a valuable resource going up in smoke to me
More than just that, if people are voluntarily burning it, I believe it sends the message that people think it's worthless.
It's actually encouraging to me that @socky is seeing only a relatively small percentage burned, however, the sum total is still (I suspect) a pretty large amount (give it to me pleeze!). I'd be more comfortable if it was closer to 0.000502192%!
