Ask the Car Guy @socky March 22
What is your car trouble?
I want to give back to Steemit community and provide some help on something that I know very well. Cars and how to fix them.
Please ask me about your car issue. Won't go into gear. Strange sounds. Don't know if you should take your car in to the shop. Just ask.
Send me the make, model, and year along with car symptoms.
Please remember to VOTE and ReSteem

I just bought my brother's car and it has been sitting for some time. We started the engine and drove it up my very long driveway, and all seems fine.
I plan to get an oil change, check the transmission fluid, put fresh gas and gas treatment in, and get it inspected.
It is a 2015 Toyota 4Runner SR5 (22,000 miles).
It sat in our driveway (outside, in a state with all 4 seasons), but recently we have started it a few times (as I mentioned).
Do you have any advice for how I should best take care of this car for its longevity? My brother passed away and I want to honor it and take really good care of it.
I plan on using synthetic oil to reduce friction in the engine and continue to use synthetic moving forward.
Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
I’m so sorry to hear about your brother. I’m sure he would be honored that you are doing this.
I don’t thing there is any magic formulation that preserves a vehicle. Synthetic was originally developed for extreme cold weather to not gell. It does have the benefit of being more slippery and can handle higher temperatures. The best thing is to change fluids regularly and check them often. One thing that gets ignored is the antifreeze. It has anti corrosion additives that break down over time. This is more critical in aluminum motors which you have. Also check your battery often. Any acid leak will cause damage. You could use a sealed battery that is unlikely to leak.
If you really want it to last, park it in a garage when not in use and avoid salted roads.
Thanks for your thoughtful response. I will check the battery and fluids frequently now... I've got it on the road and running great so far! Another thought I had - do you think I could see any added benefit by using higher octane gas than just the 87? does it burn cleaner/have benefits in any way? Thank you again for your wisdom -hoping to extend the life of the car as long as possible! :D

Thank you.
Just wanted your thoughts on the 2019 Jeep cherokee...
They look nice. I don’t really pay much attention to the new vehicles. I prefer older vehicles that I can beat on and not worry much. Right now I drive a lifted dually 4x4 truck.
your writing is very nice.. great job..
