Animal Photography: Kookaburra
Kookaburras (Dacelo) are known for their "laugh" which is actually a territorial call. They are a type of kingfisher and usually 28–42 cm in size. I spotted this one on a trip to Jervis Bay, NSW a few years ago. It was quite close to me and I was very happy to be able to capture this photo with my Canon 7D. It was during golden hour and my parents and I were taking a walk in Huskinsson.
This is my entry to the animal photography contest hosted by @juliank.

Nice shot, these breeds are rare especially in West Africa
Thanks. I see one near my work quite often but they are hard to photograph up close. Australia has amazing birds.
@OriginalWorks
My first memory of a kookaburra is when one swooped through a group of us and stole my friend's kebab out of his hand XD We have a few around where I live and I hear them cackling away regularly, they're an interesting bird :)
Wow. I thought only magpies swoop. Actually a noisy miner swooped me once.
I've only known maggies to swoop during nesting season to try to drive off potential predators, do they steal food out of hands too? :D
I don't think think they do. They are scary when they swoop
