Top 21 Steem Witnesses ~ HardFork 21

in #witness7 years ago (edited)

Important for All Steemians

"The HardFork 21 Proposals are out now.

The main pieces of the HF21 are about:

  • The SPS, or Steem Proposal System, which will take a percent of the total Rewards pool.

  • The Downvote Flagging, which gives accounts a couple of Downvotes that do not count against a user's ResourceCredits.

  • The Linear Curve, which corrects a rewards payout from past HF's

  • lastly, The proposed 50%/50% Reward Payout change.
Currently, Content Curators are earning 75% of a payout, and curators are earning 25%. the proposal is to change it to a 50% Author Content Creator payout / 50% Curator payout.

Those pushing the Payout changes have used such phrases as,
"Content Creators are a drain on the chain"
"Content Creators type a few words and hit post"
"Content Creators are sucking the system dry"

Are these really the Witnesses we want in charge of the Steem Blockchain? You decide.

What serious investor should invest in Steem?

Have a wonderful day

Serious investor? You're funny.

Let's make a handful of people multi millionaires and the rest can all be nobodies!

Sounds like a fantastic economy doesn't it!

Love those types of economies, with all the "anti-establishment" talk that I've been able to read about and then we see the same ol' same ol' as in "real life".

Guess humans will be humans, no matter what we try to say or do to make the world better, humans will bugger it up at the end of the day!

"Money talks"

Yes, absolutely right

Thank you for your comment!!! and question!

Responsibilities are spread out all over the Steem ecosystem.

Within our economy all voters have responsibilities as do the people we all vote for.

No finger pointing in this game!

100%

No middle class?

Imagine that!

Every economy in this world without a strong middle class has been proven to really be fantastic hasn't it!

Note: A tad of SARCASM in that last bit there of this comment. Please don't downvote/flag me, even if you should be practicing for when it becomes free to downvote/flag anyone for anything without even thinking about what they are saying and why they are saying it!
& in ref. to free downvotes:
Too many people ASS+U+ME things and that is a fact!

Lmfao, nail on the head there man.

Not just new users, but ones that are somewhat established, have been calling STEEM home and are simply tired of all the bullshit that keeps getting fed to them. Had a long conversation tonight to try and at least partially retain a beloved user and I don't think I succeeded.

I can see that happening. Way too many remember the last HF and all the problems. This one is just greed and short-sightedness.

Yes but when you call out the greed ... They say you're selfish for wanting to not pay them more!!!

No..joke. I'm SO serious- it was just in one of the comments from my post!!! from a curator saying "he got a raise"

Lolololol!!!! A raise!!!!!

@snook!! @ enginewitty!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂

A raise from OUR author rewards!!! What in the hell!!! 😂😂😂😂

And to answer the question, no.

they are leaving?

But she loves you so much for trying ❤️

We won't be heard...but that doesn't mean we shouldn't speak!

Kudos to you my friend!!!

I love your willingness to fight, despite being ignored repeatedly...

You still matter 😊

My comment has a bit of Devil"s Advocate about it so please take it as another point of view and in no way is it meant to be derogatory to other opinions on this thread.

First off... to me STEEM is a wonderful evolving experiment. It is a leader in its unique genre of blockchain technology. In that regard any change is not etched in stone. In my time here, for example, self voting was introduced. It was then removed and re-introduced over a series of Hard Forks. So if something does not work it can be changed again. The sky never needs to fall in an Open Source Project if we can be open to change and experimentation.

For what it is worth, the best aurgument presented to me for the reward adjustments is that it will make curation more profitable than delegating to bots. Any attempt to undercut bots is ok with me.

Secondly, STEEM's Blockchain has grown and evolved to show itself to be more than a ledger for bloggers. It is now a ledger for many thing above and beyond a blogging platform... from game data (Drug Wars, NEXTColony, etc.) to 3D graphics (dlux-io). This will only grow in my opinion with the blogging data on the blockchain sharing more and more of it to other dApps.

Thirdly, allow me to present a hypothetical evolution of this project now that Condenser can handle ads. Imagine that the community focuses on one of the greatests strengths of the blogging aspect of the blockchain, that being the immutable content aspect. With the de-platforming underway on Corporate social media platforms, should they find a welcoming community here they will come. Such highly followed content creators will bring eyes to the Chain and ad revenue in the process.

Imagine in some future Hard Fork that ad revenues are shared with active users using the same code that presently distributes inflationary tokens (currently at around 2.5% of ones stake). With such a setup then we could see our stake more like shares and the number of users is not so great an issue. We should never have a business model who's goal is to replace Facebook and compare success of the blockchain by the number of active accounts in my opinion. We should be thinking outside of the ZuckerBox. SteemMonsters is one example of an aspect of the blockchain which is outside of that box. We should encourage more.

To finalize allow me to remind you that Communities are on the way. This will be soo empowering that, coupled with SMTs, one can run things the way that community wants.

We have only just begun, in my opinion.

Steem On!!! 😎

I agree there is huge potential in the steem blockchain that we have not ever thought of and I know of a few projects that are already being implemented using steem as it's ledger where people don't even have to learn about steem to use it...... smart on their part that thought of it.

I also think communities and SMT's are the key.......but with each hardfork, we don't get SMT's or communities. The communities are hidden in Discord which doesn't make any sense to me if as you state they are where we will grow.

so to me, the priorities are a tad backward on what is important and the order in which it is being done. I am not going anywhere but it felt good to voice my frustrations in that video. Something I rarely, if ever, do. Sometimes you need to get the negative out so you don't wallow in it and leave.

Steem IS my happy place. I want others to have the same experience here. It's a place that gave me the freedom at zero monetary cost, but a freaking ton of my time, to find my real voice and not be afraid to use it. I have never powered down and don't plan on it.

yet

I see people like me.....soon not able to do what I have done......Call it what you will......Steem being free is the only reason I could afford to spend the time I did to learn so much...... I see that going by the wayside and THAT makes me sad and upset.

I admit and have before, I was very lucky to get here close to two years ago where I could post and comment as much as I wanted to. New people, using certain frontends, don't have that luxury. Again something that upsets me.

Do I think you should power up most of what you make? for me yes, I like having a larger say and a larger way of helping people.......but at some point, I will need my investment of time to pay off. Not tomorrow but not in 20 years either......

Thank you for your comment and the tone that is yours when writing on touchy subjects!!

... the priorities are a tad backward ...

No question. Not only backwards but behind schedule.

... it felt good to voice my frustrations ...

Kudos to you for opening up this dialogue. There is no better time to voice one's opinion. Perhaps tagging all top 20 witnesses that currently have your support would be a good idea so as to broaden the discussion.

@guiltyparties, @timcliff, @someguy123, @themarkymark, @thecryptodrive, @followbtcnews, @drakos, @stoodkev, @arcange, @nextgencrypto, @patrice, @c0ff33a, @ura-soul, @ats-witness, @quochuy, @pjau, and @castellano. I would love to hear your thoughts. I know my vote is small but I still vote for all of you.

I have been very busy writing code for the last few months - to integrate Steem into https://www.ureka.org - so I am not able to keep up with all the discussions as much as usual. This post seems to be based on the idea that switching to a 50/50 curator/author split will only result in benefits for investors - is that accurate?
I have already replied to someone else on this recently and it was quite a long response - because the system has so many facets.
In short, there are several relevant points:

  1. Steem hasn't exploded as some thought it would (partially imo because of slow development and zero marketing). The inflationary process that creates rewards means that author payouts come directly from the pockets of investors and from nowhere else. Authors expect to be paid, but that is a relatively new thing for the web - most platforms pay nothing. Authors need to remember that without investment there is nothing to pay them, period. Therefore, making improvements for investors is something that also helps authors.
  2. Investors currently have no choice but to make a lot of posts or lose the value of their tokens. By improving curation rewards, the investors have ways of getting an ROI that doesn't involve having to endlessly invent meaningless things to post about. That is a good thing for the platform and for PROOF OF BRAIN.
  3. Steem is based on proof of brain. If it doesn't work, then one of the main selling points is gone. Improving curation rewards 'could' improve the chances of proof of brain working again.
  4. I agree that there is no guarantee that any of the claimed benefits of HF 21 will actually produce the intended results. It would be great to test them in advance, but that is not a simple thing to do. I would probably have pushed to have community features coded up first, so that we can then test out different curation/author splits in sub communities - solving many problems at once. But I am not a top 20 witness and not many people listen to me currently.
  5. Steem is an evolving experiment. If the changes turn out to be terrible, then they can be reversed or improved.

There are many other things to be said, but I think maybe this covers the key points in this post. I am happy to respond to any questions/comments. Cheers!

First Thank You for answering. 2nd. your 4th point I SO agree with!!!!!! This is the part that really makes no sense to me. You put my thoughts into a perfect explanation. Thank YOU for that!

Good Luck and much speed on your coding!

I've wanted communities since I first heard about it early last year, it should have been top of the list of things to be done in my opinion, fucking around with curation values is not going to solve the Steem problem.

Agree and Thank you @pjau!

ohhhhh I was waiting for your reply....... will read in full as soon as I am done playing poker :) I should be losing in 2 minutes LOLL

May Lady Luck be with you! ⚁

Sounds like some more of the same. The people with all the money have been looking for a way to extract more for themselves since the price tanked. Might as well screw the people that make the site an actuality.

I wouldn't generalise that much, but yeah, can't really argue against the gist of your comment!

I wouldn't call your work "Content Creators type a few words and hit post".
If there is no content, what can you curate?

EXACTLY!
so many are being very shortsighted.

I couldn't agree more, excellent points made my friend! :-)

They're not! But who can we support instead?

Posted using Partiko Android

well, I really loved @ura-soul's answer above.....He at least suggested testing it out in communities which means at least SMT's and communities would have come out first.

Shall I add them to the list of witnesses I'm voting for?

Posted using Partiko Android

I would. I did. :) he at least has it in the right order on how to do things. and @pjau also

I don't know. I unvoted a lot of witnesses until I can find out what is what where they stand.

Hi @snook thanks for summoning me in mention, I have documented my thoughts on most of the issues in a forum category for HF21 so I don't have to repeat the same thing across multiple blogs. :)

Thank You so much for getting back to me and smart Idea!!!!!!

Cool, pleasure :)
