ARE YOU BLACK? ARE YOU WHITE ?
Last week at the metro station in Paris, a French man(European) accosted me and asked this funny question: are you black? At first I saw, or pictured him as a racist.
But as dazed as I was, i critically analyzed the question, and concluded it was a harmless question which critically needed to be corrected.
I also played on his intelligence by asking him his own question: are you white? He said 'NON' in French meaning 'No' am an European.
I then said monsieur meaning Mr, I am not black, but am African. He said whats the difference? I took my time in explaining black and white are colors attributed to things like clothes, bags, shoes, houses and so on.
It has nothing to do with skin tone, race or origin. As a matter of fact, it's just a wrong word used by people with inadequate understanding, who see other people as inferior and lower beings.
He understood and said oh 'D'accord' meaning 'ok'.
He rightfully asked the question this time: are you African? now the right question was asked, and I replied 'oui' meaning 'yes' not just African but a Nigerian. At end we said our good byes and as I was walking the thought came to me that this is a must read, a wonderful topic :ARE YOU BLACK?ARE YOU WHITE?

if he could differentiate between being "white" and being European, I am unsure why he needed you to explain the difference between "black" and African. The dense minds we face, all help keep these problems in operation; as someone else in the comments pointed out, the real question The European White guy 'should' be asking others is "Are You Human?" --- they have to get off that shit
