Summary
Filter words are unnecessary words that prevent the reader from watching the action as the story unfolds. If a lot of filter words are used a reader will realize that something is lacking and get bored with the story. It is an indicator for an amateur writer. Go through the written work and eliminate all filtering words, this method is an easy way to improve writing. It adds value back into the story, allowing the reader back into the action. There are exceptions to this rule; sometimes it is necessary to filter the senses. You may want the reader to know the character heard a noise or saw a shadow on the wall. Be careful, if filtering is used to much the writer will tell his story instead of showing. Once the concept of Filtering is grasped the writer will experience a more vivid level of writing. The writer will move away from an amateur mode and on the path to a pro.

Excellent advice. As a published author, I can say this is valuable information for writers of every level. Sometimes we forget what "show, don't tell" really means, and how important it is to the story. Thank you for this terrific reminder.
Thank You for the reply, means a lot. I'm a writer, and have written countless short stories and several novels, but i have never published. Fear has always set me back, and for the first time I'm the first stages in sharing my work. It is my dream to be an author, like you, and I congratulate you for your success.
