Bronze Bell in Ansimsa TemplesteemCreated with Sketch.

in #sct5 years ago

I noticed the bronze bell in the corner of Daewungjeon Hall. The bell in the hall is quite different from the bell outside. The bell inside is used for the ceremony for worship, but the bell outside is made for delivering the sound of the bell to all over the world. In this manner, the sound of the bell outside could be interpreted as the teaching of Buddha.

According to the purpose of the bells, the structure between both kinds of the bell is different from each other. One thing prominent is the sound tube. The bell inside has no tube usually, but the bell outside has its own sound tube.

It is said that this bell seemed to have been made at the early period of Chosun Dynasty about 700 years ago. In the explanation board, this bell was strongly influenced by Shilla Dynasty's craft.
It was so strange to me that this bell preserved the craft of Shilla dynasty. There is 500 years' vacancy between Chosun dynasty and Shilla dynasty.

It was a pitty that I could not find out the similarities of the bells between Chosun dynasty and Shilla dynasty.
But one thing that attracted my attention was the vivid appearance of the dragon over the bell.

This bell had been repaired after the Japanese Invasion during 1592-1599 AD.

@slowwalker,
I see a dragon head at the top of the Bell! Nice photography of it!

Cheers~

It is a huge shrine to the temple, such a gonata can only be seen in the ancient shrine.!

I think it is a pity that the bell was repaired during the Japanese invasion.
Today I knew something interesting from your writing, too.

700 years old bell! Very much rare collection. Thanks for sharing the historical information.

The ancient patterns are amazing to look at. Such patterns are rarely seen. The mindset of those who make all these crafts is wonderful. By seeing this, I lose themselves in another world.

The bell is very beautiful to see, the dragon is more beautiful to look at. Your photography is great. You are doing something extraordinary. Get ahead. And thanks for sharing with us. All the best!!

@slowwalker, Well explained why temple's bell using. Yeah....that can be for worship for Buddhism. Outside of bell need to own sound tube because this bell distribute sound to whole area. Bell in Ansimsa Temple had longest history. It's more valuable property to Korean Buddhism history. Dragon design also so attractive.

That is an impressive size of the bell especially seeing the objects int eh room. Been made of bronze and till now still has visible ornaments, I like that dragon, as a protector with its furious head. It is good that it is well preserved till now. I wonder what kind of sound it makes :)

Very cool. There is a lot of detail in the bell. Happy Tuesday SlowWalker.

Your blurry photos and minimal text are over-rewarded in this post. So ya...
