At the Ruins of Go Dal Sa Temple. Korea
It was a cold day when me and my mom tried to drive to the ruins of Go Dal Sa temple.
I’ve head of Go Dal Sa temple long time ago. Go Dal Sa temple is so famous for its ruined place.
There are several ruined temple place in Korea. Go Dal Sa is the well known one among them.
I’d tried to visit there for several times, but I couldn’t because of its location where was in the middle of the mountains.
Mom agreed with me to come by the temple. She already knew about the temple.
The ruined place sometime gave us the insight with desolate scenes.
Me and Mom’d like to enjoy those feelings of loneliness in the ruined temple place.
When we got there, it was late afternoon.
There was nothing except several stone structures.
The first stone thing was a water tank
Mom seemed to be interested in that water tank.
The stone foundation was laid on the wide open place
There was nothing on the foundation.
Only the foundation witnessed the glory of the past.
The cornerstones were so impressive, they were well carved.
The deliberately carved cornerstones seemed to tell the scale of the temple building was large and well cared by the dynasty.
Go Dal Sa temple was recorded as the very important in Goryeo dynasty.
It is unknown why this temple was destroyed.
But it must be the catastrophe of the war in Choson Dynasty.
There were two times of War in late Choson Dynasty with China and Japan.
I can close my eyes and almost envision how it look when it was built and all of the people that had been there.
@slowwalker, You're very luck son going to Go Dal Sa Temple with your mom. She also be lucky. Sure...only seemed Ruins there. Whole area like as desert with desolate scenery. But best memorable place to our mind. Those days made everything from stones. These water tank amazing creation. Yep those ruins showing to us this temple is destroyed one. It's unfortunate to see this huge and probably a wonderful temple was destroyed due to historical wars! The area that you photography showing us a huge basement of the temple! It's a shame to see this as a ruin! Anyway it's a great visit and seems like your mother experimenting the ruin area so well! Thank you for sharing this great experience with us!

It's a pity to see the Go Dal Sa temple in destruction, I was looking around and I think it must've really been as a result of the war like you said, seeing it played an important role in the Goryean history really. The remains are however still dazzling and amazing, awesome photography

There's something romantic and mysterious about ruins.
Desolate places appeal to our own desert places.
I once wrote about the elusive nature of this experience. "I am a statue in a ruins visited by rain."
It almost seems trivial to use such few words but when you think about it that's the only kind of poem that can be written about it.
Your photos of the water tank and the ancient foundations evoke the past vestiges of glory and like my poem are necessarily barren but convey the feeling.
Lonely places can be beautiful although barren.

It seems that the past is watching this temple and guarding it.
