My Garden Update!

in #garden10 years ago

It's getting toward the end of growing season this far north and things are starting to change fast! I went up to my cabin this past weekend and was surprised to find that leaves are already changing up there!

With my introduction post I had shared some of my photography of my little container garden on my deck. This is a quick update compared to what was going on last week. It's amazing how much can change with plants in 1 week! I have had much more fruit setting in at a much higher pace than the previous weeks. I understand that is because the days are getting shorter and the plant can sense that so it's starts its fruit production to spread it's seeds and have children next season.

Gardening is my obsession right now and I believe it is a skill that EVERYONE should have. Why? Because Hillary is going to be president and nuclear war is coming. And they have worked to convince the masses that if nuclear war comes, no one will survive. This is not true. This is a tactic to make you feel defeat before it has come and therefore you never get off the couch or change anything in your daily routine because you feel the fight is already lost and you go on grinding forward to accumulate currency to consume unnecessary goods and give it right back to "them". If you are prepared, you can survive.

I have heard countless times "if we get into a nuclear war, they will destroy the whole planet." This is a common misconception. Part of the problem is that the mass public are not educated on how radiation works, and how to avoid it during a nuclear blast. WOAH WOAH WOAH.... I started going off on a rant there.... this is supposed to be a gardening post, how did I stray to Nuclear war...? Oh, because some day in this life time a catastrophic event followed by panic will result in grocery stores shutting down, a shortage of food and water, and I plan on surviving through that. Self sufficiency is important and it is dangerous to rely on others for food, water, electricity, medical, or just about anything else. Not only is it a good idea to be able to produce your own food, it feels EXTREMELY REWARDING when you get to bite into vegetables that you helped nurture and create!

All Organic, No Chemicals... Except In The Tap Water :(

I used organic compost, perlite, coco coir, epsom salt, and organic fertilizer. (Bone meal and Chicken Manure) No pest control except manual removal. I had 1 horn worm early in the season.

Supersweet Cherry Tomatoes

Dang chipmunks got to one of my fruits!

Actually, I really don't mind. My fruit is part of nature and the little guy is just doing his job.

This cluster comes from a plant that was planted in a 1 liter gardening pot. I learned that tomatoes need more space to grow and next season I will use all 3+ liter pots. This plant had many more fruits than my others, but they produced much smaller fruits, but they were extremely sweet and delicious! I am saving seeds for next season!

A small cucumber. I shall call it my "cutecumber"

My last standing green sweet pepper.

No, that is not a rotten pepper, it's a purple sweet pepper!

My Pink Brandywine tomatoes. They are slow but I can't wait to eat them.

Yummy jalapenos for taco night!

I believe this is red leaf lettuce, I am not sure since I was gifted this plant after my aunt couldn't keep it alive. It's currently bolting and starting seed production. I will collect them and grow many more next year!

Another leafy green but I do not know what this is... I believe it's romaine. Any guesses?

And finally, my sweet basil! I love to go out on the deck and grab a few leaves to toss in whatever pot I am cooking up!

Thank you for reading! I greatly appreciate it!

Beautiful! How fortunate for you to raise your own food. My garden didn't do anything this year .... unusually hot this summer. Enjoy your bounty!

Beautiful post, so rewarding to see plants that's you've spent the time to cultivate. Gardening might be the most natural hobby, as it's all about helping the earth grow.

It makes time go by so fast and it gives real purpose to the time you are spending expending your energy. Why work to make USD to buy food when you can skip the middle man and have the food. All natural and organic at that!
