Selfish or Compassionate!

in #family6 years ago

On any given day, we can usually find a post on Twitter, Facebook, or many of the other Social Media sites asking for prayers, healing vibes, and positive energy, for someones family member. It's usually a plea to prolong that loved ones life, or for healing.

Friends and family with Audrey Parker

Just recently, I saw a news story of a lady, Audrey Parker, who was asking for better laws concerning "Medically Assisted Death". She actually was going to have assisted suicide herself, because she had brain cancer, and didn't want to be a burden on her family, when the disease finally took away anything of her personal self, and she was incapable of doing those things we often take for granted.

Audrey Parker died peacefully at home on Oct. 23, 2018, surrounded by friends and family with dignity, but her hopes have been lost. At the present time, there are not going to be any changes made to the Medically Assisted Death laws.

I have witnessed the ravages of cancer, my fathers two brothers, and eventually it claimed him as well. I watched a man who was 6 feet tall, and 250 pounds, whither away to a skeleton, that I had to almost carry to the bathroom, in order for him to relieve himself. At that time, he still had his mind with him, and if you knew my father, you would realize that trip to the bathroom at the time, hurt his pride as much as the cancer was hurting his body. He was a proud man, but a loving one, who stuck around as long as he could, he died that next morning at 2:15am. Which was my wife's birthday, a day we celebrate, and reflect.

So what I want to say to those who are asking for thoughts and prayers, healing vibes, and whatever else, for those ill family members, is that if you haven't asked them, please do ask them what they would rather do, stay alive for a short time longer, being in pain, and quite possibly ending up not recognizing those loved ones, or dying in peace and dignity. Even if your intentions are good, sometimes we need to step back.

Trying to prolong the inevitable for selfish reasons is just wrong. Yes, I said selfish, because when it comes right down to it, it is us being left behind, who want to prolong that misery of that person, because we Will Miss Them...

We never want to lose those that we love, but sometimes we just have to let them go...

Still miss you...everyday...
