Am i good or it's just the camera?

After few years (5 years maybe) of taking photo with a point and shoot camera, more and more i felt i need a DSLR. By then i was familiar with DSLR's, cons and pros and why a point and shoot is now enough in many situations. Though it was just a basic knowledge through googling and experimenting with my point and shoot camera. After buying my first DSLR (60D) i started to see the advantages for my self. But there was a trap that i fell into... . With a point and shoot camera that has a very small sensor, you can't achieve a shallow depth of field. So i started to take photos with shallow depth of field and i though that i'm doing good. Though i had a little bit of experience, so after some time and trying different things, i realized that these photos are good mostly because of the camera and the subject, i'm not doing much (even then, i was choosing the subject which is a important factor but i had nothing much in mind about what i want from the final result). I was still in the point and shoot era. :)

So i was freed from the trap (maybe it was not a trap but a stage) and started improving. Now that i look back to when i bought my first DSLR (about 5 years ago) i see the improvement, although i think i should start taking these kind of photos again, in a better way.

And it was not limited to shallow depth of field, i used to take photos of things that kind of looked interesting to me, even if i couldn't find out why.

It's just the camera...
...I'm joking. Judging by the photos on your blog you have a very good eye for photography :)
Thanks for the comment.
Though many times it's true (as i explained in the post). It's a trap that sometimes i fall into, it's just the camera but i think it's me.
Happens to everybody! Speaking of that I think I need a new camera :)
The camera is just a tool. I have photographed with everything from a large format film camera back in the 1990s to a Canon Full-frame DSLR and my iPhone. The advantage of a DSLR is the different lenses you can use. Every camera has its strengths and weaknesses, but it all boils down to having a good eye fro photography. Although I have my Canon gear, I often take trips using only my iPhone to record my experiences!
I do like the abstractness of that first shot!
Thanks for your comment.
Good to get advise/tip/experience notes (what ever it is) from someone who has experience in photography more than my age.
Congratulations, @sina-adventure. This shot got you the second place in this week's #monomad Abstract challenge. Thanks for participating!

It's been a while :)
Thanks for your support.
Like @dmcamera said, the camera is just a tool. Subject is king. Don't get me wrong I love gear and talking about gear but it's the subject that makes a photograph.
I have heard a saying before and can't remember the exact quote but it is something along the lines of "if you want to take interesting photos, stand in front of something interesting."
Some of my favorite shots taken have been from a point-n-shoot or phone simply because that's what I had with me.
Thanks for the comment.
I agree it's just a tool, though tool selection is important (but not as important as the subject). But in this case, subject was an ordinary thing to many, but the photo wasn't. This is he subject, though in the post's photo this bag was less than 1 year old and now in this photo, it's about 5.
I am glad you told me what it was, for some reason I thought it was something like a car seat. Not sure why I thought that.
Glad that i have he bag after 5 years to take a picture of it. :)
All that is shown in the photo is a texture with no scale, so that's a reasonable guess.
