Steem-Engine - The Missing Pieces

in #steem-engine5 years ago

Steem-Engine is a great tool. However, there is one important feature I think should be implemented. It would have saved me a lot of time and trouble.

The Engine

Steem-Engine has really proved its name worthy. Ever since it was released, the Steem blockchain has been buzzing.New tokens, new (niche) platforms... the options seem to be unlimited.

It has become the backbone of Steem tokenization.

The Missing PAL

No matter how great it is, the fact that there is a piece of the puzzle missing has been giving me a severe headache for more than a week.

About 2 weeks ago, @abh12345 published a post that provided a patch for the problem of the voting power of all different platforms being attached to your SteemIt VP.

Managing the Voting Power of Multiple Staked Tokens

Managing the Voting Power of Multiple Staked Tokens - 2

I thought it was a great idea to delegate the major part of your tokens to a different account, so you wouldn't be draining the VP of your main account all the time.

I must say, it works like a charm.

BUT...

I had delegated 1000 PAL to an alt-account, or so I thought.

When I wanted to undelegate, the popup told me I delegated 2000 PAL. Strange, because I could only undelegate 1000 PAL from my alt-account.

I didn't have a clue where the other 1000 PAL had gone.

When trying to retract a delegation, you need to enter the account name of the person you delegated to.

Sorry, can't show you the original picture, nor the one from PAL, since I'm still waiting for the delegation to return. For example purposes, I used the popup to undelegate the GG token.

I didn't have a clue to which account I delegated that 1000 PAL, so there was no way I could enter a name in that field.

The Search

I had gone through the list of my transaction using the explorer (https://steem-engine.rocks/), but couldn't find anything.

I visited the Steem-Engine account of every single account I own, but since delegated tokens are not shown in these accounts, this was pretty useless.

Today, I decided to use the explorer one more time. Fortunately, my transaction history only takes up 8 pages, and soon I found out I simply overlooked the transaction where I delegated 1000 PAL to a wrong account.

Imagine how much time this would have taken up if my transaction history would have been 30, or even 300 pages long...

The Missing Pieces

Personally, I think there are two features that would really make Steem-Engine even better than it already is. It might be that @aggroed, @yabapmatt and @harpagon are already working on implementing these features. The truth is, I haven't asked. Another possibility is that these features already exist, and I simply don't know about it. It wouldn't be the first time that I completely miss something ;0)

The Features:

1 - An easy way to see who you delegated tokens to.

2 - A way to see how many tokens have been delegated to an account, from within the dashboard of the account the tokens have been delegated to.

I think this would take away a lot of my confusion...

Also, it is not clear to me if upping to a delegation works like on Steemit, where you just send the full amount you want to delegate, or if you can just add to an existing delegation bit by bit.
Maybe someone can shine a little light on this? I would really appreciate it.

You are right about that also

Sounds like a good quality of life change. I myself have not tried to delegate out any different coins but I could see how that be a huge hassle if you forgot to whom after a while.

It would be nice to see my VP from everything I have staked in one place. I myself don’t want create a bunch of accounts to than have to go out and try to use my VP on all of them from all the different coins. That just starts to become a bit much.

Lol, thanks for reminding me of checking the VP of the accounts. I actually haven't done so. Been too busy messing up by delegating the wrong coins to the wrong accounts. I'm actually too 'all over the place' to make things like this work. Chaos is my middle name :0)
But since I already had so many accounts (created during the early Steemmonsters 'grinding' days) that were just sitting there, being useless, I thought it was worth a try.
I should have known better, though. I think I have more tokens that are 'returning' to me than I have staked, lol

I had the exact same situation, although in my case it was easy to fix. It would be great if the accounts would show what is delegated to them, hope the features you suggested are implemented because they really are needed!

Glad you could fix it.
It would have been an easy fix for me too, if I had paid more attention the first time I searched my transactions, lol.
I only keep wondering why I delegated that PAL to an account I don't even know... Need to look into that...

Nevertheless, your suggestions make total sense, hope they get implemented soon.

Hi @simplymike, as an existing MAPX token stakeholder, you just received an upvote and this quick note about some free tokens for you.

We are giving away 5 ONECENT tokens to each of our stakeholders.

To claim them, please go to this post and leave a comment. That's it!

Many Thanks from MAPX!

I didn't have a clue to which account I delegated that 1000 PAL, so there was no way I could enter a name in that field.

Why I like you so much @simplymike?
Something like this and you always find a way to answer the "wonders" like a wonder woman on steemit!

One wonder to another great idea😉 You are so cool. By the way.. how you get so many comments on your posts without sending memo to the wallet? Do you spell a charm too 😂😂😂😂

It's my 'wonder'ful personality, @cicisaja. People just can't resist 😂😂
And the fact that I seem to be delegating PAL to random accounts, lol

Oh god. I am struggling to wrap my head around all of it. I feel like i need a pen and paper to take notes!

I know the feeling. I have like dozens of spreadsheets just to keep track. I'd prefer pen and paper, but those always seem to have disappeared when I need them 😉

Let's be fair. :) You can't see that on steemit.com either, for SP delegations, years later. We need additional tools to show them to us. I suppose that's what the S-E team is expecting too. Tools to start offering more information to users. Sure, probably their side-chain will need some improvements too, little by little.

True, we need sites like Steemworld for that. Still, I think it's pretty important.
I did learn a lesson though: everything is properly noted in a good, old-fashioned spreadsheet.

I'm pretty sure it's on their roadmap and they will provide a solution eventually. But I thought it wouldn't hurt to give a little hint to all individual developers here - you never know: one of them could be looking for something to do ;0)
