Hey, @simplymike.

I don't know why we're not blowing this out of the water. It's like only 3,000 of us have voted over and over again. We should be WAAAAAAAAAAAY out in front on this one. I hope people are biding their time, waiting for that last second surge or something because there's no way, with as many times as we could vote, that we should be this close.

Where's all those 40,000-plus STEEM users? No way a majority of us can say we didn't see anything about this. I've seen literally more than a dozen of these posts in my feed over the last three days mostly from different people.

You would think that everyone would be interested in getting STEEM out there, regardless of the network's current reach.

I completely agree. We should have won this with our eyes closed. I have no idea why we didn't crush the competition. It's like you say: it was literally ALL over SteemIt, there was no escape possible.

I don't know how it ended. I was asleep when the contest closed. Last time I checked was 2 hours after I published this and we were 200 votes short, with 12 hours left. If I take that progress (300 votes in 2 hours) into consideration, that should have been enough to still win this thing, right?
And how about Verge? How come they get that many votes? Do they have a setup somewhere? I think I owned some Verge at one point, but sold it to buy Steem. Never looked at it again, so I'm really curious what they have going on that brings in more votes than Steem does.

All I remember is that I read something about Verge becoming the official crypto at Pornhub, but that was a couple of months ago.

yeah, I have no idea what was up with INS or Verge or even PAC coins, other than votes were being bought or people were cheating. They pared Verge and PAC down quite a bit a couple of times I think, and then INS came on late.

The reason why we didn't crush it was because, in part, there were people who were apparently against the whole idea, saying netcoins was a scam, or the vote was, or that it was all to get people's emails so they could start marketing other crypto to us.

I didn't see any of those posts and the comments about it until after the vote, though, and even then, they've been minimal. It's more like wait to see what happens and then when it doesn't work out claim you called it.

I didn't see what happened either. It was closer to 3.5 hours to go when I went to bed and INS had overcome another one thousand-plus point deficit. Something I saw this morning suggested INS had the most points at the end. The netcoin page says they're going to evaluate the votes and announce what happened sometime this week.

So, anyway. We can't ever seem to get behind any one way of doing things, even if it is in our best interests. Unless it's STEEM Monsters. Then people go for that. :) Somebody needs to be right about what's going to jump start STEEM prices/investments, so whatever it is, let it be so, and let it be soon.

could it be that privacy matters?
This is the first time i hear about Verge, and the privacy part caught my attention. Yet I don't have a clue what to do with Verge

Hey, @bifilarcoil:

I would say privacy definitely does matter. It's a big reason why many of us are here. I also know that people aren't as concerned about privacy when it comes to certain things they want to do. To each their own. I didn't want to give up even the email I did, which is mainly for receiving junk email, but I also wanted to help further the cause of STEEM. So, I did it.

I don't know much at all about Verge, other than it's another crypto, and so you would buy and hold it. Some people have been saying it's been accepted on a pornography website. I would hope that it has more uses than that, but that's all I've heard about it.

And INS, the coin that was in first place when the contested ended, I have no idea what that's supposed to be. It just reminds me of what they used to call Immigration in the US before they changed the acronym to ICE. :)

hmmm it always the shady stuff that makes it difficult.
So Verge is more of an anonymous coin, not 'just' a privacy aware coin?

hehe all the acronyms sounds like we are dealing weapons of mass destruction

O WAIT, money IS a weapon of mass destruction...

maybe verge could disrupt the porn industry a bit?

But there is so much corruption these days that it is hard to tell how all of this will develop.

Steemit probably also has that same market...So STEEM will also be part of that, right?

I'm not sure which market you're talking about, sorry. :)

re:

Money is a weapon, of mass destruction, disruption and virtually any other descriptive term. And crypto seems poised to do all of that.

re: Verge

I really don't know. I'm not even sure how anonymous or private it is. STEEM is more or less both, and I would imagine many are.

the other day i noticed there is a hidden nsfw trap.

The open wallet really gives me the creeps in this world where kids kill eachother for a pair of sneakers... But for our government an open wallet would actually be a solution for corruption.

Problem is that the gov will abuse our open wallets while keeping their own wallets a secret... So first the gov should have open wallets before we let those mobsters look n our wallets. thats my view on this... and then still i would not like this situation

citizens need privacy, politicians need transparency.

Can't disagree. As it is, beyond the balances and a handful of transactions now, the wallet isn't really telling us much. When I started, it would show a few months. Now, it might show a week. It's not the same amount of transactions either. So if someone wants to hunt down specific transactions, unless they see it while they are happening or a couple days after, it's gone from the convenience of the wallet and you have to go digging through other places that are harder to find. At this point, I'm not sure if I see the point of a public wallet if you can't see all the transactions.

I've read the argument for private wallets, and while I understand there are definitely risks, and there's no way for anyone to be completely sure with it being public, the same is going to happen if it's kept private. They won't believe you that there isn't any money in it if that's the case, and they'll be even more upset when they go to all the trouble and find out there isn't that much. Or that it takes 13 weeks to get it all out.

those that should show the most transparency end up being the ones with the means to keep things private, while the rest of us are pretty much forced to keep our lives open. It should be the other way around, but power tends to be wielded to protect the powerful.

Right now we don't really use crypto currencies. But once we use crypto in daily life to do groceries, buy household items etc. then it becomes a REAL horrible privacy issue. This is why FIAT banks offer people privacy. Eventhough governments already ABUSE that privacy the tax system knows 21% of all your transactions and citizens get punished hard when they avoid taxes while corporations avoid taxes all the time.

Right now the open wallet does not SEEM to be an issue, but i'm trying to look what will happen in the near future when bureaucrats who hide their finances will start t abuse their powers and use our open wallets against us, while we don't have the power to use THEIR finances against THEIR real corruption.

That's when the system will do harm to US.
