Fondant bow tutorial
Yesterday I helped my sister Petro make these light green fondant bows for a wedding cupcake order. I used lily petal cutters to make the shapes, and some confectionary glue to keep it together while it dried.
Tools used:
Lily cutters in 2 sizes.
Paintbrush and confectioners glue
Shell and blade tool
Ball tool
Roller.
Here are the steps:
Cut out 3 small petal shapes and 2 large petal shapes.
Using the small cutter, cut one of the 3 small pieces into an almond shape. This will be the middle knot/ tie piece for the bow.
Score all 5 pieces using a shell tool. These will be the ribbon creases.
Cut the blunt ends of the 4 bow parts straight.
Place the tie piece upside down and spread a layer of glue on.
Place the 2 large cutouts upside down on the middle tie piece, points facing inward.
Using the tip of the small cutter, cut a nick out of the tail pieces to create the V cut.
Pinch and place the tail end of the ribbon as well as the bow 'bunny ears'
Press down with ball tool.
- Shape the bow so that it lays in a more 'bowlike' way.
- Tuck the tail piece over the ribbon knot.
Fold the top down and tuck between the ribbon 'legs'.
Completed back and front view.
Adjust the bow again if needed and set aside to dry.
I'm pleased with the way they turned out. Hope the bride liked them too.

Your just to damn talented not to follow and see what you come up with next. I'm not going to trust my memory anymore to check in, I give in , you win, and you did it with of all things, bows on pink cup cakes.
Not so much the bows, but the way you walked us through the process. The tutorial was excellent.
My daughters will love this post you did today, they are avid cup cake makers. I can't wait to show this to them.
You should be pleased with the results, they look great. The bride I'm sure liked them as well, unless you made some mistake like using salt in place of the sugar in the batter mix, it has happened before, but that's a story for another time.

Sorry to hear about your health. Is it jungle fever or something more serious? Isn't there some witch doctor in your tribe that can cast those unwanted demons from your body and restore your health to you?
The reason I knew for sure you were right handed was because left handed people cannot do pen & ink calligraphy of that quality. With left handed people the hand is behind the tip of the pen and is pushing the pen across the paper, the ink cannot dry fast enough to keep the hand from smearing the ink on the paper. The left handed people that do attempt calligraphy are easily identified because the flow of the script is not there in words that have several letters. The larger the script the more difficult it becomes for them. It is nearly impossible to stop an ink pen in the middle of an arc and then pick it back up again without having what I would call a small "dot" where the continuation picks up from on the paper. Right handed people have distinct advantage because their hand is pulling the pen across the blank portion of the paper and do not have to worry about smearing the wet ink.
Yes, the odds were in my favor, as most people are right handed, but being left handed myself and knowing these identifiers from past experience was the real reason as I looked for the identifiers and there were none.

Thank you. I have been living with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for the past 10 years and the change in season seems to affect me. In a way you could say it is jungle fever because my CFS is caused by Tick Bite Fever, Malaria and Bilharzia infections that pop up again every now and then.
Think I may currently be fighting a flare up.

I am no doctor so don't take this as medical advice .
A good dear friend of mine had CFS and suffered for several years such as you. All the doctors said "learn to live with it ", which is damn near impossible. She went back to Mississippi to visit family and while she was there she ended up in the hospital in a little old country town her family was from. The old doctor who treated her tested her body ph level, which no other doctors had done, her ph level was 6.2 which is very acidic.
He told her that her problem was her body was to acidic and the body can't function properly in that state. He said the human body to function at its optimum needs to be a ph level of 7.7 to 7.9 He had her start drinking baking soda and water to raise her ph level. She drank two 12 oz glasses a day, each glass had one tablespoon of baking soda, she added a tablespoon of honey to help with the taste.
He instructed her to test her urine first thing in the morning each day with ph test strips to monitor the progress in raising her ph level.
It took her about 45 days to reach 7.7 all of her CFS symptoms disappeared . That was over nine years ago, she remains free of CFS to this day. She tests weekly now and only uses the baking soda when the number starts to drop.
As her ph level was rising in that time period she could feel herself gaining strength and stamina. She is completely cured of what her normal doctors had told her she would have to live with.
I'm not saying go start downing baking soda and water, what I am saying is it is something to consider. The doctor told her that bodies are essentially batteries and there are two types of batteries alkaline and acid based. The body needs to be kept in an alkaline state to function properly.
Check your ph and see where you are at and then talk to your doctors.

I was on a protocol by the name of Sevenpointfive a couple of years ago. It became too expensive to stay on so baking soda sounds like a much cheaper and more sustainable option.

I will have to check her out, maybe she knows a trick I was never able to learn.
I am not much into calligraphy, my pen and ink work was on mylar for working drawings of irrigation systems for hydraulic performance. With the coming of computers and CAD programs I retired my ink pens. But I do enjoy seeing the beauty of calligraphy on documents and invitations.
