Ten Truths and One Lie Challenge Big Reveal

Imgur

I have to say that when I started this challenge I didn’t think it would have been so easy to pick the correct answer, but both @snook and @kubbyelizabeth guessed correctly minutes after the post. Ten Truths and One Lie Challenge.

The Lie
I auditioned for America’s got talent and made it to the second round. The judges said my voice was too squeaky, and that I couldn’t hit the high notes. I was very depressed and vowed never to sing again.

Maybe I should have not used America’s Got Talent as my lie. It is true I never auditioned for America’s Got Talent, the judges did not insult my singing, and I did not vow to never sing again. If this had happened I would have been happy and thankful to have gotten to the second round, and then tried harder to sing better.

Congratulations to @kubbyelizabeth and @snook who have won 0.5 SBD!!!!

The rest of the truths are true, and each of them came with a valuable Life Lesson.

Every Summer our family would visit Myrtle Beach in South Carolina for vacation. One summer we found a dead shark on the beach, and I put my foot in its mouth.

I barely remember this because I was very young. But I remember it was talked about for years after. When I put my foot in the sharks mouth my family flipped out. I was scared because I didn’t understand what the deal was about it. They explained that it could still be alive, and then chop off my foot, and it’s just gross to touch dead things.

Life Lesson: Don’t touch dead things, and It might not be dead

I was visiting my Aunt and Uncle in New Jersey while my Uncle was preaching at a church across the street from the beach. I went by myself to the beach, went into the water, and then got my leg stuck on a cable under the peer and nearly died. I never told them.

I do remember this very well. I was swimming alone, and I kept drifting over toward the peer. I wasn’t a strong enough swimmer to swim back to where I started. My leg got wrapped around a cable of some kind near the shore. Every time I thought I got my head above water a wave would push me back under and I hit the floor of the ocean. I finally got my leg un-stuck and got out of the water. I wasn’t allowed to go across the street to the beach alone, so I never told them it happened.

Life Lesson: Don’t go swimming alone!

When I was little my parents left my older brother in charge. We were all playing outside. I went in the house locked all the doors and windows. When my brothers tried to get in the house it was locked. I said, “Don’t worry I got a q-tip.” One of our doors in the house could be unlocked with a q-tip and I thought you could open all doors with it. They had to ask the neighbor for a key to get in the house.

This was funny; now that I think about it. It really happened that way.

Life Lesson: Don’t lock the door unless you are sure you have the keys to get back in again.

When I was 14 I begged my mother to take me to modeling classes. I went for 5 weeks, learned how to do my make-up, pose for photos, and walk the runway. I was a natural at doing the t-turn.

I did beg my mom to go to this fancy modeling school. It was cool. I learned a lot about make-up, and how to pose for head shots.

Life Lesson: When you see a camera aimed your way- Strike a pose!

When I was 15 I ran away to Florida with my friend and some guys she met. On the way there we stopped at a truck stop in Georgia and some trucker offered the guys we were with $50.00 to buy me. The guys declined.

This was really what happened; or at least what they told me as we drove away. Who knows. I’m just thankful I made it home alive!

Life Lesson: There’s no place like home.

I was an extra for the movie King Pin, when they filmed the movie in my town. I got to see Woody Harrelson. He made the crew find him green apples. There was a snow storm that night, and we barely made it home from the bowling alley where they were filming.

This too is true. It was then that I knew I really did not want to be an actress. It took hours to do the costumes and the make-up. We stood around for more than eight hours, listening to the same song repeatedly. It was so boring! We only lived 10 minutes down the road, but the snow was so deep it took us much longer. I think we were driving about 5 miles an hour in my friend’s big sled of a car.

Life Lesson: Being in a movie is over rated.

When I was in my teens, I wanted to learn to drive, so I took the keys to my mom’s car and was trying to move it up one spot on the street. I hit the gas too hard in reverse and hit some dude’s very nice old car. The dude tried to pay his sister to beat me up, but she said I was too young.

This too really did happen. I felt so bad about it. This was another hear-say, so not sure if the guy really tried to pay his sister to beat me up, but he loved that car and I really messed it up. And it was so nice. I still feel bad.

Life Lesson: Don’t try and do things you are clearly not trained to do.

One night after a Penguins play-off game, my drunk friends and I decided to go 4-wheeling. I had to go to the bathroom, so we stopped in the woods. I didn’t want to pee in front of them, so I thought I would pee behind a tree. The tree was growing out of a 40 ft cliff. I walked off the cliff and knocked out all my front teeth.

This really happened. Not much to say. A few months before this happened, I went out to the bar after work, got drunk on purple hooters, came home and slipped, fell and cracked my eye open. I clearly had a drinking problem.

Unfortunately, this did not stop me from drinking. I quit drinking heavily in my mid-twenties, I still drink on occasion.

Life Lessons: Watch where you are going, and always be aware of your surroundings, and don’t drink in excess.

The night I was going to church to be baptized we got in to a car accident. My father was mad and said nothing was going to stop him from getting his youngest child baptized. We made it to the church, they sprinkled holy water on my head. I spent most of my youth in church learning Bible Scriptures.

This is true. My dad will still tell this story. All I remember is I had a very dark red velvet, long-sleeved dress on that had a white lace bow. It was so pretty. I got baptized in the church when I was around seven years old on Christmas Eve. It was snowing and dark on the way to the church, and we hit another car at an intersection. I made it to the church, was baptized and spent most of my life in church, vacation bible schools, brownies, girl scouts, and then finally rainbow girls.

Life Lesson: Nothing can stop you from getting to church, if you are determined to get there.

I auditioned for the Steel City Angels dance company when I was 19. The lady who runs the dance company said I made it because she liked my smile. I couldn’t dance much, and after one year, I was awarded most improved dancer trophy.

This is true. I had only been a cheerleader for a few years. I couldn’t play sports because I was clumsy, accident prone, and had weak ankles. I saw the ad in the paper saying The Steel City Angels were holding auditions near me, so I went. I did not have any formal dance training, but I did catch on during the audition. The director said she liked my smile. I danced for them for 3 ½ years, packed the costumes for the shows, and eventually babysat for the family.

Life Lesson: A smile can get you farther than you think.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the blog to give me their guess. I had fun trying to guess everyone's lies. I was not very good at guessing, but I know my Steemit friends much better because of it.

Thank you! :D

I enjoyed reading about your truths and one lie :-). There is one thing that you cannot say and that is that your life was boring. Very interesting and I love the life lessons. (sorry I did not make it to your show on Tuesday. My laptop got a s##tload of viruses on and I could not do anything for about 3 days. Had to do my posts on my hubbie's tablet. Luckily my new PC arrived on Wednesday afternoon!

Oh I'm so glad you got your new computer. I don't like viruses. It is a drawback of being online! You are always welcome to visit our show! We started a new page @simgirlandsnook to post our show announcements and recordings. It should be easier to find our posts now, as they will not be buried on our personal pages. We are also holding a Bad Karaoke contest if you are interested :D
