Studying Caravaggio ^_^

in #art7 years ago (edited)

As I wrote many times here, I use to exercise my hands almost every day studying photos, ancient paintings and drawings and everythink catch my attention. Even if my style is an illustrative style, it's really important for me to exercise myself drawing something in a realistic way. It's not possible to represent something if we don't know what we want to represent and to know that subject as better we can, there's nothing more useful than to study it. In art as in many other fields of our life. ^_^

In my way on art I studied a lot f different painters of the past, not just their life or just watching the pictures of their artworks, but trying to learn their techniques painting (or drawing) a copy of their works. It's the best way to learn the "how to" and every artists do this when they start to study art. We can learn a lot from the past!

Yesterday I decided to draw the wonderful painting "Boy with a basket of fruit" made by Caravaggio in the 1593-4.

I'm studying (again) Caravaggio to improve my skills on the tecnique of "Chiaroscuro", that is the way to  represent a scene with a strong contrast between the light and the dark.

I studied this tecniques when I start to paint, but I like to exercise my hands on it again and again ^_^

Well, time to come back to work

See ya soon

Wow I have not seen you do much realistic work before @silviabeneforti I guess a different style is very important to exercise and it's looking great.

Thanks so much, @simonjay ! Yes, I use to do realistic work sometimes, but just as exercises to improve my own illustrative style ^_^

Such a wonderful study Silvia. A great painting to study the effect of broad light and dark. ♥︎♥︎⚖️♥︎♥︎

Thanks so much ^_^ It's a long study, but very interesting to do. I don't know if I'll draw also every fruits, it could be an exercise for my patience too :P
