Rare variety Black Eagle...

I have embarked on a currency journey in 2019. Aquiring old US bank notes and whatever I find interesting. The $1 1899 Black Eagle silver certificate has certainly caught my attention. My latest purchase has shown me that there are several different varities.


☝️This is a 229A variety. Which has Vernon and McClung signatures on the obverse side. It is in fact 1 of the 2 rarest of all varities. A neat little style touch on this photo is the playboy Las Vegas gaming token. A recent pick up at the coin show last weekend.

The note is graded by PMG as a 12 Fine. Which is not much to brag about. The key factor here is the rarity. I looked in my currency value book and it shows a retail value of $1600.00. I have since been told that is not a very accurate indicator. The 'green sheet' is the best indicator as far as value goes with currency. Similar to the grey sheet when it comes to coins.
