John J Ford Jr. Collection - Stacks and Bowers Catalog!

John J. Ford Jr. is a famous numismatists known for his world class collection. In 2005-2007 he agreed to sell his collection through Stacks and Bowers auction house. It was a 2 year effort! That is how much material he owned. Each auction was broken down into its own category. For example, medals, currency, coins, and western ingots. Each auction was highlighted with a catalog, that was put together by Stacks. They included detailed photos and history related to each and every item. In total, his collection spread out over many auctions sold for over 55 million dollars.

The most controversial auction was the western assay ingot auction. Which of course, was saved for the very end!! The last and most interesting auction in my opinion.

☝️I tracked down and purchased the actual auction catalog that Stacks put together highlighting Ford's famous western ingots.



☝️The amount of information is actually incredible. I was expecting more photos and details. Not nearly the amount of history and backstory behind each ingot. I can see why they did include heavy details. As it was effective in making buyers feel comfortable. Authenticating each ingot.
