Cox 049 Dune Buggy

I came across a killer collectable that I was not familar with the other day. As I aggressively browse EBay. I searched the term dune buggy. I came across what is called a toy car produced in the 1960s known as a Cox 049. This happens to be the dune buggy model. What is unique about these cars is they actually run on a gas engine!! They have a small pull cord and choke. When running, they sound like a high pitch leaf blower. It's pretty wild!

So I had to make up a reason to buy one and see what it was like in person. Hmmmmm.... Oh that's right I have a 4yr old son who LOVES toy cars. Perfect. One week later this came in the mail.

The origonal box and car came with instructions and a very small set of tools to build the car. You actually build it similar to a model car. This buggy came with a spare engine which turns when the pull cord is pulled. This buggy is basically a parts car. In rough condition and came as is.

The most important part here. MY SON IS OBSSESSED WITH IT. Why this means so much to him is because we have a dune buggy that is very similar. He LOVES the car and wants to drive in it all the time! This is the closest he has gotten to owning his own. I told him I am going to get the small tools and instructions. That we are going to restore a Cox 049 Dune Buggy together.

The first thing he asked me when I walked in the door after work today. "Dad did you get the tools so we could fix the dune buggy?". ❤❤

I am going to buy a second Cox 049 and use this one for spare parts. Of course, the only way to do something is to go all out. I intend to share my progress here on Steemit if anyone cares to see let me know in the comment section. I know this is off the usual topics but I figure variety has value as well.
