Should i take advantage of autovotes?

in #steem5 years ago

I have been away for a few weeks and when i started up again i have decided to change my upload strategy a bit. I used to post a video almost every 2 days but those videos were never something i was proud of. I did them because everybody was doing it to get Dtube votes and if you had some talent and was consistent it wasnt hard to get the votes.
I decided to change that since it turned into a chore that i didnt enjoy.

After a couple videos now im starting to think that relying simply on the videos to attract attention or that i will get rewarded on them enough to at least be able to pay a few $ to promote the videos, was a wrong approach.

I used to think that working hard on a piece of content was the smart thing to do. That approach might work for Youtube but here it really isnt the case. Ill still create these kinds of videos for myself and for youtube but i think i will increase my posting rate from now on.
Not with videos but rather with a "few thoughts on paper" like this.
Writing a few hundred words a day is super easy so why not use these side posts to fund some other things?
Is that wrong?

Maybe, maybe not. There is no curation for voters if you dont post frequently and no matter how much work you might put into 1 video, its still only 1 video every 10 days or so.
What is it that creates more value then on Steem? A high effort piece of content or frequent posting.
:D

We will see.

Interesting question! Based on looking at a few accounts on Steemauto recently, I think frequent posting creates more value on Steem - with the proviso that the posts do have to have some quality and substance.
I personally don't seem to be able to do this, though I admire those who can. It might be due to having worked as a magazine journalist for years, where we had to make sure everything was checked many times before publishing. Actually I find it easier to do simple, loosely-edited videos than simple, loosely-edited posts.
But I'm taking a different approach anyway. I usually use Steempress to post from a "conventional" blog to Steemit. From past experience I know that it can take years to attract attention to a blog. So I'm creating a blog, and all the posts go on Steemit. I suppose it's a kind of hedging approach. I have a strategy in mind for building up the blog, but I never seem to find the time to put it into action...
With videos, Dtube now allows you to upload existing videos from YouTube. You can earn DTC from them, but not Steem (or is it the other way round?). I think this more long-term strategy could make it profitable to put more effort into the videos you post on Dtube, and at the same time, it should encourage more well-made, quality, and less "ephemeral" videos onto the platform for viewing. Time will tell.

You earn both Steem + DTC on dtube

That's certainly true, but I think if you re-post older videos from YouTube you only earn DTC...

Im looking at what Dtube is doing and will try and be more involved there once their blockchain launches.
I still think that Dtube will remain tied to Steem since i dont think their project will receive as much investment now in a bear market.
But i like their strategy.

It would be nice to think of Steemit adequately rewarding quality content, but I came to the conclusion that frequent posting tend to be better strategy, at least if the steady stream of upvotes is your main aim. And in my particular case, I favour frequent posting simply for the sheer amount of material I'm planning to post.

I agree. It would be nice if by putting in big effort in 1 piece of content you could get rewarded more then by posting every day low effort content, but that isnt true really. There seems to be a cap on what you can earn if you arent one of the community leaders or are influential on Steem.

That is unfortunate because it discourages high effort content and encourages posting as much as you can to collect the support from autovotes or move away from content creation into politics and making friends.

The title is a good question. I can't answer it but at least I can share my side as an auto-vote sponsor. When I installed the auto-vote you had posted heavy-weight music productions, only, which I would have upvoted anyways so an auto-vote was simpler (also because I didn't want to miss it when I am traveling). Now that you have started to mix subjects and weight of the post I prefer to vote manually. I think it is great to see you post on whatever you feel like.

The thing is that i didnt really post heavy.weight music productions. :)
Mostly light-weight. hehe

I just recently decided to stop producing small effort videos and focus on things i can be proud of like the "Can you feel the love tonight", "Elder Scrolls Medley" and the "Gladiator soundtrack". Those take much more time and effort. About 10 times more.
Im also working on 3 collabs right now that will be original songs.

Basically my question was connected to the fact that musicians here have a limit per piece of content. 15-20$ generally. Should i use the autovotes and post more frequently to gather funding that way or just keep uploading high effort videos once every 10 days or so.

There are a lot of individuals here that just write and they trend every day so maybe consistency is what gets the attention. Writing a 500 word post takes about 15 minutes and a video like the Gladiator took me 8 hours to do with shooting, editing, learning, recording.

The final result will always be underrewarded imo, which is bad because i cant reward those that help me so writing something every day might help with offsetting that and might even attract new audience since i would be much more frequent.
