Kitchen Witch Thursdays - Apple Pie Doughnuts

in #recipe8 years ago

A little variance on the last time I tried these, and with much better (and tastier) results. I still can't seem to get the ratio just right but I'm working on it, this is only the second time I ever made doughnuts after all.

You'll need the following;

  • 2 apples

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice

  • 1 teaspoon flour

  • 1 1/2 cups flour

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 3/4 cups brown sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

  • 3 tablespoons butter

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

  • 1 tablespoon melted butter

Yes, that is supposed to be in three parts because there's three components to this recipe. Also I'm really sorry there's no photos anymore, my camera in my phone went really bad and I can't afford a new one or a new camera so I can't take photos anymore. But I figure the least I can do is try to upload these recipes :)

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees to start, as always.

The next step is to prepare the apples by dicing them. Basically cut around the core and then cut the four sections into small diced bits, then shove them into a small pot on your stove. Add the butter, apple pie spice and flour and turn the heat to high until the butter melts then turn it back down to medium. Cook at medium heat until the apples are soft, then set it aside.

Next make your batter. Mix your flour, baking powder and baking soda in one bowl. In another cream together the brown sugar and eggs then add the buttermilk, butter and vanilla extract. Slowly add your dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well, then add your apples from the previous step and mix it all together nicely.

Put your batter into a piping bag (or just a plastic ziploc bag you don't mind never using again) and cut the corner to let the batter out. Pipe it into your doughnut pan and then bake for 12 minutes, there should be enough batter for 2 pans of 6 doughnuts each.

Once the doughnuts are done flip them onto a wire rack and let them cool for a few minutes. Then melt your butter and mix the cinnamon and sugar into it and brush over the tops. After that eat and enjoy!

Like I said these came out a lot tastier than my last attempt and worked out a lot better too so I'm really happy with them even if there are no photos to show XD
