Artwork - progress + GIF

in #drawing9 years ago (edited)

Hello dear Steemit friends!

Finally I can present to you another step by step tutorial showing how I created my drawing :)

It felt like it took forever to finish this drawing (in fact I can see myself still changing couple of things here and there hahah) ;)

The truth is I was sooooo amazed by your kind support! And because of that I wanted this artwork to be as enjoyable to you as the previous one. I wanted it to be great, and I spend last couple of days embellishing it. I hope you'll enjoy the final result, that was my purpose ;) I'll stick to the formula from the last post- progress pictures with commentary and a GIF at the end. I worked with pencil, fineliners and markers of different size. The paper is size A3.

I'm very thankful for a very generous support that was a game changer for me! Thank you so much! ;) I am also very thankful for all your nice and interesting comments, and I would especially like to thank @jacinta.sevilla, @creativista, @vermillionfox, @mikepm74, @jamesartville and @stahlberg! Thank you guys, I hope I'll be able to return all your kindness!

So, without any further ado, here's the final result. The scene depicts two frogs in a forest lake. I must admit that the tone of this scene is darker than I planned, so the frogs- instead of being funny, may look rather lost or even scared, I think.

27.jpg

I started with sketching the outlines of the water line, tree trunk and the shore. I wanted the tree to be in the centre.

1.jpg

Then the frogs came ;)

2.jpg

I thought for a while about what to place on the shore, and decided to model some stylized plants there.

3.jpg

I added leaves to the plants and circular lights in the sky.

4.jpg

And then even more plants and lights. I decided that this amount of details is enough.

5.jpg

It was a time to redraw the lines with a fineliner and start with shading.

6.jpg

For some reason I wanted to begin with the tree trunk. I used lots of fine lines to create a rather soft texture and delicate shading.

7.jpg

I wasn't going to finish the tree all at once, so after few more lines I went on to the lights. I wanted to orchestrate the overall shading of the drawing later on when all the elements will be initially shaded.

8.jpg

This time my dots were a little bit more organized than always, I created circles around the white centres.

9.jpg

Here you can see the progression of stippling.

10.jpg

So the dots were kind of tidily organized around the lights and more chaotic in the lower part of the drawing. I liked how they formed some irregular patterns.

11.jpg

Behind the tree trunk... This dot shading wasn't looking great at the beginning, but in the end it gave a nice impression of strange, diffused light.

12.jpg

I was thinking about placing some more dark outlines of the plants behind the ones in the front, but decided to leave it as it was. Here you can see the lines I sketched on the ground.

15.jpg

I started with thick lines,

16.jpg

and then added some fine lines in between.

17.jpg

Then it was time for more intense shading. The scene started to look more mysterious.

19.jpg

And finally the water! I started with initial lines indicating waves.

20.jpg

I wanted the ridges of the waves to be dark, and the space between the ridges to have lighter shade.

22.jpg

More and more lines to create nice texture.

24.jpg

After I was finished with the water, I dotted the frogs and added some small details here and there.
And it was late at night when I decided that I've finished working on this piece ;) I really hope you'll like it.

Just fantastic, wouldn't be out of place in a children's book.
I really like your high contrast and rather distinctive style. And the frogs are just winners!

Hi @zeroooc! You know, frogs really appreciate what you said ;)
I'm glad you like it. The feeling is mutual as you know!

Ribbit
Have you ever seen the animated series Over the Garden Wall ?

Wow! I haven't, and I'm very intrigued! Seems great, I will definitely watch it! Thank you @zeroooc!

Let me know what you think :)

I ADORE it! Perfectly scary, spooky, beautiful and funny. I've watched 3 episodes so far. Thank you @zeroooc so much, it's very sweet of you to recommend this series to me. I'm getting inspired. Do you know the game Limbo by Playdead? Also, this series reminds me very remotely of the series called Gravity Falls. Do you like animated series yourself? :)

Potatoes and Molasses :)

Yeah I know Limbo, it's a great game and a very strong design statement! I have never seen Gravity Falls, so I'm gonna do some research.

Indeed I like animated series very much, I think from what I've seen recently my favorites were:

Castlevania
Ducktales
Futurama (rewatching)
and South Park

Wow, I'll watch Castlemania on Netflix right away! I've read Donald Duck comics in my childhood, so maybe I would enjoy Ducktales as well ;) I love South Park. As for the Futurama... I'm great fan of the Simpsons, I suppose I should love Futurama. Seems pretty logical to me. However! Many times have I tried to start watching it properly, from the first season on, but could never really continue watching. Would you recommend any season of Futurama in particular? I feel I'm missing something hahah! ;)

Very beautiful and skilled work. Thank you for the really nice step by step presentation! Bardzo dobrze :-)

Thank you for your support, @reinhard-schmid! :D I'm glad I've found you on Steemit, and I'm very happy you liked my frogs. Looking forward to more of your interesting posts :)

Hi @opheliafu! I appreciate your support, thank you! I checked out your blog, your art is amazing! I especially love the Puzzled Cat https://steemit.com/art/@opheliafu/puzzled-cat . The cat is so sweeet and the threatening figure in the window is scary. Some narration is going on in your artwork. I'm following you for more! :)

Excellent! Thank you very much.

Aww, thanks for the shoutout! I also have the same feeling where I think that there is more I can do to the picture once it’s done. The finished image is as fantastic as your first one. I love the contrast created by the different shapes. It looks like the image is moving/flickering. :)

You are very kind to me @vermillionfox, thank you for your support! This is a very interesting observation! It was my intention to put a lot of light and shining in this picture, and I like very much how you put in words <3

Wow this is so awesome !
I'll follow you on instagram <3 hoping to see more drawings

Thank you so much @aalagenesis for checking out my post and for the support! I appreciate that a lot! I see you're a talented artist yourself, I'm following you as well! Cheers! Klaudia :)

niiice :) looking at the drawing I remembered Burnham Lake (it's a park here at our place)..
The gif made it even more awesome!

Hello @rjd! Thank you for support, I checked out the Burnham Lake in google, must be very nice :) I checked out also your blog, you have some interesting art there, beatiful photos and drawings, looking forward to more of your posts :)

Thanks! Looking forward to more of your posts too :)
Really nice drawing :)

I love the shapes of all the plant leaves and their texture. I like how they stand out in front of the background but still look flat. Very soothing piece.

Hello @dinobot! Sweet user name BTW. Welcome to Steemit! I hope you'll find this place motivating and rewarding. Have you read FAQ yet and joined PAL on Discord? :) Thank you for your support, I enjoy your comment very much. Yes, I wanted these plants to look a bit like they were taken out of herbarium. Good luck and see you on Steemit! :) Klaudia

These progress gifs are pretty amazing! Keep up the great work!

Thank you, @mikepm74! I'm really glad you like it :)
