Goodbye Fenghuang Ancient Town
All good things must come to an end, and my temporary stay in the fenghuang ancient town has come to an ending. I order to properly enjoy your time in places such as this, you have to stay for a short period of time to let the area consume your imagination but not yourself become accustomed to it.
Me, my friends were there for just two nights. We wandered through the historically accurate villages with their Tang dynasty style buildings and absorbed the cultural relics of the area with tenacity and plenty of curiosity. What you'll realise the more you look around, is how much preservation there is, especially with the wooden furniture. The tables, the chairs, the benches, are all the same as those used by the originating settlers here from hundreds of years ago.
There is something unsettling about how untouched the place is from the rest of the world, and that is why I like it so much.
Untouched by technology as a whole, but still savvy to the finer things of the advanced world. Coffee, wine, both abundant and greatly enjoyed by the visitors as well as the locals.
The winding rivers wrapping around the settlements on the sides of the mountains are like a scene from another world. Infact, it's very similar to the amazon jungle but the buildings are much more traditional Chinese.
Stone buildings feature less in the village but for the main barons, they always had more fortified living quarters and this is one such example.
The river continues to be used today by the locals as a method for transporting their produce between ends of the village. Actually, most modern cities are also built around rivers for the very same reason.
Perhaps the most exciting part was actually an oxymoron. My soothing time in the tea house and library remains the most memorable and defined the peak of my self recovery.
