Mushrooms served in a spicy pungent sauce were an amazing way to break up some of the flavours in the main platter. They were soft and absorbed so much flavour, it was hard not to dig through the entire dish. Small quantities in moderation are recommended here to make sure one can get a taste of every dish that is served in this great banquet.

This much needed soup gives a refreshing balance. Soups are a very healthy way to get a nutritious helping of hydration and goodness. The Yi people are fond of their soups and a number of shoots were served up here with and a rather spicy kick to add to the flavour. There are apparently a variety of soups to try and I hope to try some more soon.

When trying out Yi food, it is best to understand that within the Sichuan region especially, spice is life. Embrace the spice and your body will love you for it as there is very much little be done to get away from the rich and spicy flavours of every dish served here. The dry chillies give such a powerful aroma that I could feel my eyes begin to water as I went to tuck into this beautifully served dish.
