Getting Through the Void

If I seemed to be missing for a couple days, it isn't the fault of the change we experienced in the blockchain, it is because hitch hiking can be a drag. Especially when your phone is dead most of the time and you can't get any pics of your hitching adventures, or have time to work on any drawings.

Going Down to South Park

Monday was a bust. I was unable to get out of Glenwood Springs and failed to make any money on the street. My "curse" on the homeless who were taking my profits seemed to work at least. The whole table had disbanded by 5pm. Even though I had the plaza to myself, nobody was interested in helping the guy they had to see in their town for two weeks.

Tuesday, however, I met a local Jeep person named Joe, who's looks seemed to scream at me, "I am a crazy, Colorado, Jeep driving, 'Raoul Duke' crazy man, of course I will get you the eff out of here!"

He purchased two beers for me, just to help me be a tad more Gonzo with our endeavor. He was able to drive me half the distance in a Jeep with no power steering or roof.

I managed to get into Frisco then Breckenridge with two more hitches. The folks who dropped me off in Breckenridge wanted me to stay the night with them, but it was still daylight and I was determined to get into Colorado Springs by that evening. My further hitching adventures landed me in Fairplay, CO, which also contains the historical town of South Park. Yes, the show's namesake is based on this historical town. The town's main street did look like the town from the show except without the brightly colored paint. I am sad to report, there were no Mecha-Streisands to be seen and my ninja skills were not challenged.

Check, Please

South Park/Fairplay are way too cold for camping. Wednesday morning there was ice on my tarp and sleeping bag, so I hitched into Salida which is where I am writing to you today. This drawing is nearly finished and this town should be the perfect environment for me to finish a few more.

Much Love!

I love Salida! My favorite town! You should do well there. But you are still very high up in elevation so you're looking at snow within weeks. Just saying.

I check the weather online daily. The weather is tolerable for this next week, though, Crestone weather is going to be more dry. I am thinking about getting into Crestone today since a dude gave me a 20 yesterday. You would be proud of my camping prowess. My stupid little shelter is pretty dynamic. I was forced to go back to camp early one night because it was windy with wind chills. I was in full layers and still feeling it. I rigged my bed to be a windbreaker then was fine chillin there on my lil sheepskin. I think having this sheepskin is a big part of why I have staying warm. Fairplay/South Park was the coldest night so far. Hope all is well, friend. <3

Otherwise I haven't made much in money in Salida. I was given that $20 yesterday after 3 days of no action except a weed donation which got me through the week. Most folks are rich and just walk on by. One lady who lives off disability wanted to buy a drawing but would have to wait a while to get paid. The youth are my biggest fans here but they are hording their money for the winter, I am told.

Yeah, the tourists have all gone home. There's no way you'll be able to camp anywhere in that area at all if you don't have the right equipment including snow shoes, boots, winter sleeping bag, snow shovel for making forts, and probably a sled to pull around your gear. ;) Literally, somebody's gonna have to take you in soon or you're going to have to get rich quick. However, if you can find the means, there's lots of places to camp around there. You might also consider Arizona for the winter. ;)
