American Values I have Discovered While Being a Homeless Artist...

(They All Have Us Chasing Papers)

Well, today wasn't so productive artistically, as I was hit with a severe disillusionment concerning American Values. Besides, the fact the rain soaked my camp gear, that I was soaked, and my Tarot deck possibly ruined by being soaked as well was difficult to bear. Plus, my past 3 days of trash pickup didn't yield any thanks, praises, or monetary rewards. In spite of having a sign...

Dreamtree Talks About Homeless Income and American Values

Here is the pic of the progress I made on the drawing, which isn't much since I spent a good deal of time sorting out my things and getting them dry...

Lies

The epidemic of homelessness is much greater than the TV, newspapers, or social media might tell you. Most of my recent woe can be attested to the fact there is too much competition here for "free" money. My only anger is that I actually work to earn my keep and there is no room for me at any of the local shelters, which is taken up by a drove of transients who do nothing all day but smoke pot and drink beer, then get the police after them like the transient who asked me for money later that day...

I have an idea... ask someone who has money, dude when you aren't trying to avoid the Police when they are enforcing Policy.

Never mind all of the false directions I get to "Safe Houses" that turn out not to exist.... I am not chasing another one of those, "I tell ya wot".

Much Love!

I feel you, @shaman-ra - i have been near homeless and dirt poor and currently live in a building for formerly homeless vets with a formerly homeless vet who rescued me and we moved from Berkeley, CA to Denver...

I remember when we were in newly here in Denver and he would draw pictures and sell them on the street. I was staying with someone at that time - then he got into the domiciliary and eventually we got a Section 8 apartment. It was a rough time. He had been chronically homeless and out there there really is no housing. My sister was homeless for about 5 years and she's in her 70s. She had been evicted from her house in Marin County, CA because the landlord wanted to renovate it and rent it for triple. She recently finally got a place to stay with an older woman as her caregiver...Our family would not help her - even though they have rooms for rent in their houses. The greed factor is amazing.

it is rough out there and you are right - the reports are inaccurate. I wrote a story about our adventures: https://joannawhitney.weebly.com/blog/the-yeti-the-mermaidthe-true-story-of-2-people-who-needed-help-helped-each-other

Wow! I am sorry to hear it but, it is good confirmation that this can happen to anyone. Best to expect it to get worse I suppose but, that is why we write about this sort of thing, right? We may have to teach others. Thanks for sharing your article! I will be sure to read it and follow! Much Love!

well yes - it will bet much worse, however the solution for us was that we prayed alot and we did have miracles open up for us every step of the way and now we finally have been living in this apartment for 4 years. I am his caretaker - and friend - I had met him in Berkeley, CA and he had asked me for help but I did not have many physical resources, but I prayed a lot and miracles began to take shape and continue to ... so that's what works for me.
