Someone says the moonlight, someone is the princess of the sea. The common name is pink dolphin. They can be found in the Bay of Bengal and the Mongia area. In the week, a group of forest department and wildlife researcher found a beautiful animal in the western part of the Sundarbans. Four pink dolphins were found swimming in front of the island of Putni near Bangabandhu Char.

In 2002, the Wildlife Conservation Society surveyed the existence of pink dolphins in Bangladesh for the first time. In 2011, this mammal was seen in the Bay of Bengal. But this was the first time they were found in the Sundarbans border. Pink dolphins around the world are considered as endangered species.

Apart from exceptional color, this specialty of the dolphin is its shape and weight. It is the largest and rare in eight species of dolphins in the world. They usually roam in more saline water. They do not like to stay in pollution and shipping, where they are. As a result, they are occasionally seen in the undersea part of the Bay of Bengal and the estuarine area.

A group of wildlife researchers went to the Sundarbans last week under the leadership of Professor Monirul H Khan of zoology department at Jahangirnagar University. They are conducting a survey to determine dolphin settlement and number of people across the country. The United Nations Development Program and the Forest Department are doing this survey. Survey is being done to understand where the country has a dolphin settlement and living environment.

Professor Monirul H Khan said in the first light that the Putni island of the Sundarbans is located in the Bay of Bengal and Sundarbans. There is more water salinity. It is a suitable place for living pink dolphins (Indo-Pacific Humpback). As a result, they may have large settlements there. The place can also be declared as a safe area or sanctuary for dolphins.

They are larger in size than the other seven dolphins. They can stretch neck 180 degrees. They can bend the body like a bow. They are 8 to 10 feet in length. Weighing 200 pounds or more than 90 kg. However, after birth, the dolphin weighs only 1 kg and 30 inches long.

Fish is the main food of pink dolphins. Pink dolphin death rates are increasing due to current net use. The people of Amazon believe this dolphin is very sacred. They never hit pink dolphins. They think, seeing the pink dolphins in their eyes, they will have to see their nightmares. So they never forget to look directly at the eye of a pink dolphin.

Wildlife expert Professor Reza Khan said in light of the fact that the number of pink dolphins is declining around the world. This dolphin has been found four or five times so far. But most of the time it is in the Bay of Bengal. If it is found in the Sundarbans it is very rare.

There are eight varieties of Gangetic pigs or dolphins, Iravati dolphins, fenneless papaya dolphins, themed tooth dolphins, bottle nose dolphins, chitta dolphins, vortex dolphins and pink dolphins. In 2004, six thousand dolphins were found in the entire coastal area. The world's largest Irbati dolphin is in the Sundarbans. The Ministry of Environment and Forests has announced four places of the Sundarbans for dolphin sanctuaries.
