Tour de Pakistan Day 4
After two days of epic historical sites and food that Lahore had to offer we booked a car taking us to Islamabad, but there was a twist. On the way there we were headed to Khwera mines the world’s second biggest salt mine, have you heard of the Himalayan salt and how pricey it is well it comes from this place. It is a mine turned into a tourist site. On our way the Motor way was surrounded by lush green dense forest it was quite beautiful to see along the way.

We reached the place at 1 pm the first thing that we noticed was a board on which it read, treatment for Asthma this was a first for us. As one of my cousin has Asthma since his childhood and so we inquired about it the person said that for 10 days you will live here and salt oxidizes the air when you will breathe this air it will sooth your lungs and help in the treatment we will see what happens for another day. We went inside the mine and the first thing noticeable was the drop in the temperature it was a lot cooler then the outside. The guide said that the temperature remains constant throughout the year at 12ᵒC and so in the summers it feels cold and in the winters it feels warm.

There were water pools beside our path these were actually rain water being accumulated for years and this had a more concentration of salt then the Dead Sea hence everything would just float on this water pool. The place was truly exceptional they had small monuments made of salt that looked pretty cool and the finesse these had made you realize the skill and hardwork that was required to build them. The tour was different and informative especially for the two young cousins they should know about these things. We left the place to return back on our way to Islamabad it was evening already.

These are actual salt rocks.

When we reached Islamabad it was already night time, we were exhausted but excited for tomorrow as our tour for the Northern landscape would begin from the next day. We would discover the beauty of KPK that is truly endless.
