В Україні цю квітку ще називають калачиками за формою плодів, схожі на калач.

High stems, densely covered with bright, delicate flowers and large palm leaves, decorate the manor with a living wall. Many shades: from white, pink to red and crimson, creates an amazing rainbow around the house.

Hardly the most widespread and beloved in Ukraine has long been considered a pink or mallow. Malva is an old and reliable keeper of the house. Folk beliefs say that the good souls of their ancestors settle on the mallow and guard the inhabitants of the house. And this flower is very good, so it's no coincidence that the mallow of the most diverse colors has long adorned Ukrainian manors.

«Балада про мальви» — пісня Володимира Івасюка на вірші Богдана Гури. Вперше була виконана Софією Ротару у 1975 році, згодом увійшла до альбому «Пісні Володимира Івасюка співає Софія Ротару».

Спочатку В.Івасюк хотів назвати пісню «Балада про матір»: «Мати жде-не діждеться доньку з війни. А донька — ось вона, під вікном розцвіла мальвою. Мати, якій люди вклоняються до ніг за її подвиг, яка ніколи не перестане чекати…»
