Oscar 2020: The "Parasite" Night

As I predicted weeks ago, the night of the 2020 Oscars was historic, dominated for the first time by a non-US film. Parasite dominated Oscar night. Dominated. Beyond all expectations. The 4 most important statuettes were all awarded to the South Korean film. Bong Jon Hoo wiped out the various 1917s, Once Upon a time on Hollywood, Irishman, Joker, Jojo Rabbit and A marriage Story. He wiped out four wins. Best Film, Best International Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. A combination that no one had ever hit in history. Anyone who knows the dynamics of the Oscars will know that Best Picture - Best Director is very rare. Combining Best Screenplay and Best International Film is virtually impossible. Parasite's feat is of mammoth proportions. To this triumph should also be added the award received last year at Cannes where the Palme d'Or went to Parasite. His inexorable race started from there but in few, no one (except me, who had planned the double with 2 posts 3 weeks ago) would have imagined that Parasite would win everything. In a year where balance reigned supreme it was impossible, honestly, to imagine it. An Oscar night to remember then, where Joaquin Phoenix deservedly won the Oscar for his intense interpretation of the Joker and Brad Pitt was finally awarded after a huge career. Reneè Zellwegger wins here too, after his Golden Globe victory. Laura Dern reaches the culmination of her wonderful career by winning Best Supporting Actress. For 1917, she won three technical awards, just as she did for Dunkirk. Irishman remains empty-handed despite 10 nominations.

Come avevo preventivato settimane fa, la notte degli Oscar 2020 è stata storica, dominata per la prima volta, in maniera totale da un film non statunitense. Parasite ha dominato la notte degli Oscar. Dominato. Oltre ogni aspettativa. Le 4 statuette più importanti sono state tutte aggiudicate al film sud-coreano. Bong Jon Hoo ha spazzato via i vari 1917, Once Upon a time on Hollywood, Irishman, Joker, Jojo Rabbit ed A marriage Story. Ha fatto piazza pulita, accaparrandosi 4 vittorie. Miglior film, miglior film internazionale, migliore regia e migliore sceneggiatura originale. Una combinazione che mai nessuno aveva centrato nella storia. Chi conosce le dinamiche Oscar saprà come la doppietta Miglior film - Miglior regia sia rarissima. Abbinare anche miglior sceneggiatura e miglior film internazionale è praticamente impossibile. L'impresa di Parasite è di proporzioni mastodontiche. A questo trionfo va aggiunto anche il riconoscimento ricevuto l'anno scorso a Cannes dove la Palma d'oro andò proprio a Parasite. La sua inesorabile corsa partì da li ma in pochi, nessuno (tranne il sottoscritto che aveva previsto la doppietta con 2 post 3 settimane fa) avrebbe immaginato che Parasite avrebbe vinto tutto. In un anno dove l'equilibrio ha regnato sovrano era impossibile, onestamente, immaginarlo. Una notte degli Oscar da ricordare dunque, dove Joaquin Phoenix ha vinto meritatamente l'Oscar per la sua interpretazione intensissima del Joker e Brad Pitt è stato finalmente premiato dopo una carriera enorme. Reneè Zellwegger vince anche qui, dopo la vittoria ai Golden Globe. Laura Dern raggiunge il culmine della sue stupenda carriera vincendo come miglior attrice non protagonista. Per 1917 3 premi tecnici, cosi come accadde per Dunkirk. Resta a mani vuote Irishman nonostante 10 nominations.
