Why I'm not going to celebrate (soon to have) 400 followers

in #norway7 years ago

I think I'll rather say a big thank you to my followers who upvote my stuff and make comments, and seem to follow me for honest reasons!

I must apoligize if I forgot someone - which I most likely did. Misunderstand me correctly, I am grateful for all my followers, but the most important thing I believe is to gather and interact with people who actually are interested in what you post. In the long term I believe that pays off the most for all of us. If we have patience and build up a relevant following instead of speculating on how to earn most in the short term. Seems like about 2% of my followers are engaged, but if we shift our mindset to the long term, it is just to hang in there.

I know a lot of people must feel the frustration a little bit. Your following is increasing but still almost no one sees or votes for your stuff. Sure, there can be more than one element to it.

  • Your (mine) stuff isn't nessecessarilly as good as I think it is (buhu), and it doesn't engage people that much. I'm still trying to figure out and find a balance between what's engaging but at the same time not at the expense of my meanings or interests. I'm not going to start to become a social justice warrior just because people on Steemit are more likely to be that. I will stay true to my values even if it costs me engagement.

  • There can be time sone issues causing a lot of followers to rarely see your content. Plus there is so much content coming out every second, so the odds of being seen are quite small.

  • Some followers are following to get followers, but spend most of their time upvoting the whales for pennies

I hope I'm able to attract people with the same attitude towards this platform. And I am going to be even better at looking up the content of you guys who have been so gracious towards me!

Have a great day/evening/night :)

Well said mate, cheers for the recognition! Just keep on keepin on i say

Thanks Captain! Keep on keepin on :)

you forgot me :P yeah I agree, better to build the relevant following then to have enormous following but no interaction. I've crossed 100 milestone but I see that it doesn't mean anything. Only people who are engaged with my content is people who I befriend.

Nooo. Im sorry :) A little compensation going your way. Good thinking. Just have parience!

Yep. Definitely. Having a lot of followers is nice and all, but having followers who actually read your stuff, upvote, and comment means everything!

Thanks for the shout out bro. Love your stuff and I probably would have at some point in my 'followers' journey written something almost identical to this. Interesting how much we think alike. Keep Steemin!

You're so true! There are so many people using the system just to get to the money, I bet a small part of all of us are in it for coins but besides that, the content and friendship are far more important!
Keep it up my norwegian friend!

Thanks! Sure, I'd be lying if I didn't say a part of it is the money. Sure. But I want to get that money by having fun, creating what I consider good content and help others with their success on the platform. But that's because I know that thats the best way to do it. That's what so great about capitalism. It will reward those who do things properly, are in it for the long haul, have patience and help and interact with other people. Those who have their mind set on making the small bucks, the pennies from upvoting the "right" whales etc, they will lose out eventually. I'm sure there are some clever people that use different hacks to get rich on this platform without real engagement, and that's OK I suppose. But I'm not that technical and besides, it sounds very boring. Keep it up yourself my finnish friend!

I couldn't have said it better myself, glad to have you on board! Enjoy the journey :)

@scandinavianlife, it has been fun to watch your journey. I have been able to see most of it since we started Steemit at the same time.

I am honored that you were the the first person to post on my first Steemit article. Looking forward more engaged interaction for years to come.

Was I? Awesome :) I'm looking forward to reading more from you too! Let em comin'!

Celebrating follower counts is a big turn off for me, and many people on Steemit, seem to make a regular thing of it. Thanks! So we're just a number to fluff up someone's narcissistic self image.

Engage, engage, engage! Not only the readers but the authors also, and many of these authors seem to use their platform as an echo chamber.

So I appreciate and upvote your sentiments.

Thanks Colonel! I hope and think that pays in the long run.

Most people is following so much users that they can only read or vote a small percentage of what they followed write. Furthermore, the resteems make this even worse.

So then, I guess the purpose of following people is just to read the most recent articles.

Thanks! Yup. I'm aware, but personally I really try to follow the right people (who'm I believe are "worthy" of following (of course and unfortunately I'm missing a lot of great people and content all the time) And I do my best to stay engaged with them. But I agree..it's really hard to stay updated on the people you follow. I wish there were a better way to see the content of your friends here.

I would like to have a resteem filter, because I was following some users I liked and finally decided to stop following them because they were flooding my home with articles.

Yeah, I love the resteem function, but I only use it when there are content I REALLY think is worth spreading. I could use it a little bit more though, and I will!

400 Thats great number but celebrating follower numbers are not for vikings !!!

That's exactly why I didn't celebrate it :) (If you read the post) :D
