The cries

She got up from her seat and ran down the stairs as fast as she could. She could not bear the agony her mother in law was suffering from. The nurses had closed the door and asked her to go outside. She went and sat in the waiting room chair. There was no one around. It was near midnight. The other inmates were all sound asleep but the cries awoke them even though the door was supposed to muffle the cries.

An elderly lady approached her and asked what had happened. She told her that the nurses were inserting a tube to extract the urine. Normal people would have kept silent somehow but her mother in law was eighty-four and suffering from dementia. Nothing could be done but yet she had insisted on admitting her here so that her husband's mother could live the rest of her days in peace. Even her six daughters had given up and never turned to look or even care. They were deaf to the fact that dementia had stolen their beloved mother. They kept believing that they would get their mother back soon and refused to look after her in her ailing state.

Her reverie was spoilt by the cries. She could not hold back her tears and ran down. She came back after a few minutes and saw her mother in law sleeping peacefully. All the excess urine had been collected in the bag. Manni was safe now. Thanking God, she breathed a sigh of relief and slept peacefully that night.

Note - based on a real-life incident. This happened in 2015 December. My mother in law has no serious health problems as of now but she is a dementia patient and cannot do things on her own. We feed, bathe and look after her 24/7. This is nothing compared to what she has done for us, including saving my life about which I had written for SWC for @jerrybanfield

@sayee it brings the chill to my soul. I hope it's all well. Quite a riveting read and liked the way you have used words to paint the scenes of reality.

Thank you from the heart. Days go by when all is not well and her increasing tantrums but some days are ok. I hope God gives me enough strength

So sad when family refuse to take responsibility for their parents, wish you strength with this!

thanks a lot dear, you are right

Good submission. I have read and evaluated your entry 👍.

Thank you so much
