Writing Prompts (Week 1) - Tension- The Emoji therapy

Mark Rykaner was going to be late for his morning meeting. This was the third time this month. Last night he had reached home late, and Dr. Cassandra 'Casey' Rykaner- his wife had gone to sleep leaving a note for him "Casserole in the fridge, both your pajamas are in the dryer." Earlier in the day she had called to confirm if he had made reservations at the Delhi Town for the evening and he had cancelled the dinner all together, an office emergency. Casey had disconnected the phone. In the morning Mark could feel the coiled tension between them. She had not spoken to him, nor had she waited even a minute in the bedroom. Rushing about, getting ready for work.

She was having her morning chocolate drink when Mark had finished washing up and dealing with messages on his phone. "Casey, please don't behave like this. I am sorry, really there was no way I could ditch the clients." When Casey did not react Mark went on. "Look let's ... You did not start the coffee machine Casey. What is wrong with you?" He turned toward her flinging his phone down on the table. Casey replied, seemingly startled. "I was just reviewing these articles.." "What articles!! Casey I have to leave in ten minutes for my morning meeting." Casey slammed her phone down on the table and gritting her teeth replied slowly. "Don't you start about my work." Mark had stared at her for heartbeat but just huffed and walked away.

When Mark finally backed his car out of the garage, still chewing the marmalade sandwich Casey had left for him on the kitchen table, he knew for sure that he would be late for his meeting. Mark picked up the phone and that is when he noticed it was not his phone it was Casey's. Then the phone rang. "Dr. Rykaner this is Manny from Digitalis. Your articles are overdue by two days doctor. If you can't upload them by midnight, I can't promise anything. OK?"
Mark started. "Hello.." Manny had disconnected. Then a message buzzed. "Your home insurance upgrade had been approved. Please call...."

Mark dialed his own number worrying about the mess this was going to create. But he smiled when he saw the screen- it was saved as 'favoritebuddy'. The number was busy. Casey would be at the book signing at the Plaza as a co-author. Not very far from the office thought Mark and headed there. He texted to his number "See you at the signing in Plaza @ 11.00 😍 ". Unknowingly, Mark was not tense any more, he was looking forward to see his wife get the recognition she deserved. The office worries had somehow been relegated to 'not so urgent'

Casey was in the bus when the phone rang. "Where the hell are you Mark. I can't handle these geeks alone. Get here NOW." The phone was disconnected before Casey could say anything. She dialed her number- busy, Mark was going to be furious; well serves him right she thought to herself. She was still fretting when the phone rang again. "Hello Mark, listen man. About yesterdays meet. You saved my life." "Hello Dave, this is Casey." "Oh God did I.." "No, No. Morning mix up. I will tell him you called." Dave was Casey's cousin. Then Mark's text blinked on the screen. "See you at the signing in Plaza @ 11.00 😍 " Casey laughed out. There she realized, it had been days since she had laughed like this. With Mark busy and her book being sold they had not been giving time to each other.
