Oppo's Reno series is one of the most selling smartphone series of them. Until the reno 10 series, their smartphones were like the other mid-rangers, filled with crappy 2MP sensors. Now they have moved away from using them and brings updates to new models. This time is no exception.

Oppo is refreshing its popular Reno line with two new models – the Reno12 and Reno12 Pro – both of which are thinner and lighter than their Reno11 predecessors while also being tougher. The both Reno12 and 12 Pro feature a 6.7” OLED display with a 1,080P resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, now sporting a quad-curved design, with curves not just on the sides but also on the top and bottom edges.

This is a first for Oppo. The Reno12 Pro shares the same display but is slightly thicker and heavier. Both models are protected by Gorilla Glass and feature a die-cast aluminum alloy mid-frame, enhancing their durability. Additionally, the Reno12 series boasts an IP65 water resistance rating, making them more rugged compared to previous models, while still maintaining a slim profile – the Reno12 at 7.25mm thick and 179g, and the Reno12 Pro at 7.55mm thick and 183g.

Under the hood, the Reno12 is powered by the Dimensity 8250 chipset and is available in several configurations: 12GB RAM with 256GB storage, 16GB RAM with 256GB storage, 12GB RAM with 512GB storage, and 16GB RAM with 512GB storage. The Reno12 Pro, on the other hand, is equipped with the more powerful Dimensity 9200+ chipset and comes in 12GB RAM with 256GB storage, 16GB RAM with 256GB storage, and 16GB RAM with 512GB storage. Both phones utilize LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, ensuring fast and efficient performance.

In terms of photography, the Reno12 Pro is equipped with a 50MP main camera featuring the IMX890 image sensor, a 50MP 2x telephoto module, and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. The standard Reno12 model has a smaller 50MP sensor for the main camera (LYT600, 1/1.95”) but shares the same 50MP 2x telephoto and 8MP ultra-wide cameras. Both models also sport a 50MP front-facing camera. This impressive camera setup is complemented by AI-powered features that can enhance photos, such as fixing blinks, removing unwanted people from the frame, and even replacing backgrounds.

The battery and charging capabilities of the Reno12 series are also noteworthy. Both models house a 5,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging. Oppo claims that these batteries will retain 95% of their original capacity after 1,000 charge cycles, ensuring long-term reliability.

Running on the latest software, both the Reno12 and Reno12 Pro come Android 14 out of the box with Color OS 14.1. With enhanced AI features integrated into the camera app, including advanced photo correction, dictation transcription, document scanning, and even a virtual assistant that can function as an English teacher and primary school tutor. These AI features are designed to provide a seamless and intelligent user experience.

The Oppo Reno12 and Reno12 Pro come in a variety of colors: Millennium Silver, Soft Peach, and Ebony Black for the Reno12, and Silver Fantasy Purple, Champagne Gold, and Ebony Black for the Reno12 Pro. The Oppo Reno12 and Reno12 Pro will be released next month in Chinese market. A global release has not announced yet. Let's see what's gonna happen.
