India- the country where people fight to prove they are backward

Yes, India is probably the only country where people want to prove their backwardness. Indian reservation system is not justified. I understand, what circumstances prompted our then government to have a special reserved slot for the scheduled castes. The condition that they lived in was terrible. Though the reservation helped them get a strong footing in the society, but now people have accepted them as equals, and they in no way are less than any individual in the general category but the reservation still lives. It is high time that the government reconsiders it's reservation policies and considers people who actually need them.

It was long ago that society was divided into many castes and certain castes we're considered untouchable. They were treated very badly and were not given equal opportunities. Their entry to the temple were restricted and there was no means that their condition. Would improve in the society. The affirmative action program was launched in the favour of many backward sections of the society in the year 1950 giving them special opportunities in education and employement.

Today, India has changed. Untouchability is no longer practiced. People who belong to lower castes have now reached highest positions. They earn equal or more than what an upper caste individual earns, but the reservation system has not ended.

Reservation system ensures that an qualified individual fails in the race where the priority is caste, qualification and ability comes secondary here. India should reconsider it's reservation policies and see that the right individual get reservation. There are still many who hardly make a living because they don't have a reasonable job and they can't find one because they are not reserved. There are many who find it difficult to get basic education for their children because they don't belong to the reserved class. India should offer reservation to those who really need it and not on the basis of caste.

The sad part of this reservation system is, two individuals working in the same office, same department withdrawing same salary dont get promotion together because one has reservation and one doesn't. The one who has reservation is put into a fast track process while the one who doesn't has to compete with thousands of others in the general category to get a promotion slot.

Sad but true. We Indians are actually fighting to prove that we are backward. I hope the condition changes soon and government understands the reason for the reservation and doesn't blindly follow the old policies.
