Using The Right Words And Using The Words Rightly

in Project HOPE2 years ago

We all know that words (which are the basic components of language) are the fundamental tools for communication. This is one of the reasons why so much potency have been embedded inside words. You will agree with me that from the words from someone's mouth, you can tell to a large extent what the person has in mind. More so, someone can either be justified or condemned as a result of the kind of words they have spoken. This is why people should learn how words should be spoken and how they should not be spoken.

In addition to just communication, words can evoke emotions and this is one of the reasons when we use words, we should not only use the right words but we should also try to use them correctly. There is a way you will use even the right words and they may mean entirely different thing. So it is not just speaking that matters but how you speak also holds so much importance. The way you speak can relate to the person you are communicating with about your personality and your intentions. You will agree with me that if spoken rightly, even a seemingly harmful word can be diluted to be harmless.

When using words, one thing you should be mindful of is your tone. Yes, your tone can affect the overall meaning that the words carry. This is because tones show the emotions and intentions behind the words. Using soft words with harmful tone can make the words to be perceived as harmful. Have you ever wondered why, most times, when people rebuke someone, they use heightened tones to drive home their point? Wouldn't the points be clear enough without increasing the tone of the voice? Well, this is just a way to back up the words so as to appear severe. And most times, the words themselves may lose their effectiveness and they will only create fear or other forms of reaction in the person.

A few weeks back, I witnessed something that made me to understand how powerful tones can be. A friend of mine was trying to correct someone over what she did but he increased the tone of his voice in the process. The way she reacted to those words was surprising. After that, I tried to recall the exact words that he spoke to her and I realized that they were just common words that we use everyday even when joking with friends. However, in that scenario, it meant entirely different thing simply because of the tone that backed it up. This is just to prove to you that as much as words are important to communication, tones also make the communication effective.

Now that we have considered the tone of our voice when using words, let us also take a look at other factors that can affect the overall meaning of words. Here, we will look at the "nonverbal communication tools." You will agree with me that communication does not start and end with words. As a matter of fact, there is even a way to communicate with someone using less or no words. Yes, talk about body languages, facial expressions, gestures, etc. These can create a certain emotion around words and can even form an entirely different meaning from what the words were intended to. You will agree with me that there is a way that someone will answer "yes" to a demand and you will interpret it as a "no" because the person's facial expression or body language may negate the yes.

It is true that words may be universal, because everyone uses them, but in communication, the tone and expressions used must be tailored to fit the demands of communication at that particular time. That is, to communicate well, your right words must be have the right tone and must be back up with the right expression to create the right emotion. The question is, even the supposed right things that you said, how did you say it? Do not just focus on creating the right words but also understand that the usage also matters.

Peace on y'all

Words of mouth are really important, but facial expression and attitude while speaking is also extremely important and should not be taken lightly.

That's very correct. We should take not of such details when communicating.

Thanks Bimbo

Hello @samminator

In my village they repeat a lot something like this "words have power", and certainly the way and the energies we put to express ourselves has the power to do good or bad, it will depend on us whether to do things in the right way, or express ourselves in the worst way.

Best regards, be well.

hello @samminador
It is very important to be able to say things at the right time , with the right words and correct in one of a way so that what we want to express is not misunderstood .
.
Thank you very much for sharing your post

We all knows that this is one of the toughest thing to do in live. Knowing what to say and how to say it is not that easy, you have to make sure that you knows how to control yourself irrespective of what you are doing. You will come across temptation from different angles that will push you to talk, this is where you must apply wisdom in whatsoever thing that you are doing.

Well said. We should always try to bring in wisdom in the usage of words, so that we will not use them wrongly.

Thanks bro
