Unique way of New Year celebrations in different parts of the world

On 31st December, the year 2017 will end and the very next day on 1st January a new year will start. Since the majority of the countries follow the Gregorian calendar rather than the Julian calendar New Years is mostly observed on 1st January. It is by far the most celebrated public holiday in which there is how of fireworks to mark the start of a new year. However, the style of celebrating varies from country to country and from culture to culture. Let's have a look at the various traditions observed to mark the new beginning in different parts of the world:

Denmark
In Denmark what people do is they save all their dishes and plates which have been unused and as the 31st of December approaches they shatter them against the doors of their family and friends. This is an interesting way to kick off the New Year don't you think?

Spain
In Spain people believe in beginning the New Year with good luck and this they achieve by stuffing 12 grapes in their mouth at midnight. Basically, if you successfully manage to stuff 12 grapes in your mouth you have earned luck which will bring you positivity. Who knew grapes could turn a life around?

South America
Never underestimate the power of underwear as it can determine your fate at least that' what people of South America believe. The color of your underwear will tell what awaits you in the New Year for example if golden color signifies wealth.

Japan
Japanese begin their new year by ringing all their bells 108 times (how noisy might that be) as part of their Buddhist belief. They do so as they view it as an act that will bring cleanness. They also believe that one should start the New Year with a smile as it brings luck.

Switzerland
Best known for producing delicious chocolates, in Switzerland New Year begins by dropping ice-cream on the floor. Now, this is one tough tradition to follow unless the ice-cream is a flavor you dislike.

Romania
In Romania, people throw coins in the river to start their new year. They believe engaging in such an act will bring them luck.

Belgium
People of Belgium are very much attached to livestock which is why they don't begin the New Year by wishing their cows first. Now that's one country that cares for animals.

France
The country of love likes to start the New Year simple and easy by consuming a stack of pancakes. That's a sweet way to start the New Year don't you think?

Columbia
Would you want to carry a suitcase all day without any need? Well, Columbians do when starting the New Year as they believe this act will give them the chance to travel in the coming year.

Chile
People of Chile spend the night at the graveyard with their deceased loved ones to start the New Year. Although this is a loving gesture it might just scare most of us to even visit the cemetery at night.

These are some interesting ways of how New Years is celebrated around the world. Culture and beliefs have a big role to play in how these practices are formed and implemented. This is why every country has a different approach towards celebrating a globally recognized holiday.
